Hi Ahmed1313,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Yes. Those SN that contains AU1 or REF on the serial are from the Lenovo / Lenovo Outlet Store.

Those that are sold on other markets may have previous owners.

One way to know is to call in Microsoft to have them check if the Windows authentication keys has been activated before.

There are also stocks that maybe on the resellers shelf for sometime but the activation of Windows should not have been triggered for a new machine (without previous owner).

I hope this helps answer your query.

Regards

Hi Ahmed1313,

No, Microsoft have the tools to check their proprietary product key for Windows.

The serial number of the machine is for the hardware.

It is a unique identifier of OEM for each machine built.

Imagine this, if a machine with a pre-loaded Windows that was activated before the actual date of purchase then most likely there maybe previous users before.

Microsoft activation tools can check the date and time of the history of activation and changes made from the 25 digit activation keys and even the location.

I hope this clarifies the process to check by its OS activation.

For those machine without a pre loaded Windows, it maybe a challenge to check even when calling technical support unless there was report made to them indicating an account tied to the serial.

Regards

Boa tarde. OBRIGADO...
