Re: Lenovo Ideapad U450p - Bios Update failed

Looks like you have phoenix bios, so you can look at this topic https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-U-V-and-Z-series/Lenovo-ideaPad-Y560-BIOS-Recovery/td-p/37791... .
Though it's for different laptop model, technically these bioses are similar and that restoration method should work for you. NOTE! that doesn't mean that you can take bios file from y560, you should download updater for your laptop, open it with 7-zip and use bios rom file from here. Flashing bios from different model will DEFINITELY BRICK your laptop.
Also, look at this:

Re: Lenovo Ideapad U450p - Bios Update failed

Thank you for your fast answer.

I tryed it with a 2GB usb stick but after I run the program wincris windows says that the stick is empty...

Another question is where the right usb port is?

Is Fn+R the right combination for the U450p or Fn+B?

With kind regards

Manuel

Re: Lenovo Ideapad U450p - Bios Update failed

The reason it is showing you that it is empty is probably because you have formatted it in NTFS mode
Make sure to format it in FAT16 or FAT32 mode and I suggest making a small partition in your USB drive with no more than 512 MB for maximum compatibility in DOS

Now I tried with a 128MB Stick and Fat Format but windows says even now the stick is empty.

My system runs on windows 7 ultimate 64bit.

Re: Lenovo Ideapad U450p - Bios Update failed

Easy....

Go to Computer>Users>YOURUSERNAME>AppData>Local>Temp and delete all the files in there

That is safe they are just old temporary files

Next, double click on the setup file for the BIOS in windows, then do not install it or cancel, just go to the temp folder you were in, and you will be able to see the files extracted, then copy the *.wph file I believe that is the flashable version

If the files weren't there, then they might be in C:\Drivers

Then extract it from there

You must have hidden files set to show under folder management for you to see that temp folder by the way

Also, as you sure you formatted the Flash disk in FAT16 mode? You might wanna install a partition manager to do it as Windows only has NTFS as a format mode as far as I can see on my computer

Re: Lenovo Ideapad U450p - Bios Update failed

Try to run wincris in xp compatibility mode/under windows XP, be sure you select the correct drive, several users had problem with it. I don't know if windows sees the files written on the flash drive, I haven't tried it myself, but I saw somewhere that something around 6mb should be occupied if everything went fine.

You can download bios updater from here , then you can get the wph file from it by opening it with 7-zip utility (it's free and powerful archive utility which can be easily found in google).

About putting bios in recovery mode - you should follow these recomendations exactly: unplug battery, unplug power cord, press and hold hotkeys, plug in ac adapter, press power button. Even if you don't know the correct combination, it's easy to find it in several tries. There's a hint how to understand that the hotkeys are correct - if laptop enters the recovery mode, fan will run at full speed. I was able to find correct hotkeys on my y570 in several tries.

Hope this will help you.

I think yes. Were you able to enter recovery mode?
