Lenovo S340-15IWL Model: 81N8001LUS

2019-10-24, 17:54 PM

Hi Lenovo,

I bought Lenovo S340-15IWL Model: 81N8001LUS (15.6") processor intel i5-8265U 1.6G. This has 8GB (4GB soldered+ 4GB installed RAM) and 256GB SSD installed.

I am planning to increase the storage but I couldn't find any info for this model in specific.

Lenovo support could you please let me know how many slots are avaiable for Hardisk? If yes, what kind HDD or SDD? max out capacity for storage?

I guess RAM has 1 partition tht has 4GB(Can i swap this to 8GB) installed since 4GB is soldered and make it to 12GB?

Thanks

Hi prashanth14,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

If you would check the hardware manual and check physically on your machine, you can see that there would be one m.2 storage slot and one SATA slot available.

Product specifications shows:

Up to 2 drives (one HDD and one M.2 SSD):

● HDD / SATA 6.0Gb/s, 2.5" wide, 7mm high, 5400rpm

● M.2 2242 SSD / PCIe NVMe, PCIe 3.0 x 2, 16Gb/s

● M.2 2280 SSD / PCIe NVMe, PCIe 3.0 x 4, 32Gb/s

● M.2 SSD / SATA 6.0Gb/s (e.g. xxxGB SSD M.2)

You can have the current m.2 PCie NVme SSD replaced from 256 up to 1TB (ex. 01FR510 Storage SSD PM981 PCIe 1T SAM) or add a SATA 2.5 7mm mechanical drive up to 2TB (ex. PN 5H20M37521 ST Rosewood2D 7mm 2TB HDD).

For the memory, 12GB max offering / 2400MHz DDR4, optional 4GB memory soldered to systemboard, one DDR4 SO-DIMM socket.

This confirms replacing current 4GB with 8GB DDR4 (ex. PN 01AG843 8GB DDR4 2666 SoDIMM,Ramaxel) would max recommended OEM capacity to 12GB. Both 2400MHz and  2666 MHz is supported.

I hope this helps answer your query.

Regards

Thanks for the response. For SATA 2.5 mechanical drive, Can i use SSD instead of HDD as laptop is sleek and I dont think HDD can fit inside the panel.

Hi prashanth14,

Greetings.

A SATA 2.5 7mm SSD would be great as it would offer speed and durability similar to those offered by resellers. The size is universal but do get the 7mm specially for slim machines.

You can easily put a 2TB SSD with mSATA by purchasing it on Ali (search "Kingspec") for $157 only. The memory is easily expandable to 4+8, 4+16 and 4+32. This has already been tested in practice.

But I want to note that Lenovo, as always, gave shame to customers and did not make a stupid and slow config by solder a miserable 4GB, because all the memory outside 4Gb + 4Gb will work in a single-channel braking mode with 2 times lower read, write and copy speeds. Which greatly affects the integrated video card if its ddr buffers gets in single-channel blocks outside 4+4 scheme. In single-channel mode, for example, the UHD620 hardware video decoder simply does not runl 4k VP9 at 60 fps on YouTube (real fps only 50-55). As well as the problems begin with playing H265 (HEVC) at the same frequency in the any players. If it is important to you. Some of the software is very critical to memory bandwidth. A good example is Photoshop. Although with cheap IPS with only 45% NTSC in the all S340 series, working with color soft still doesn't make sense in essence. But it also affects archivators soft, video encoders and the like this, any soft loving memory bandwidth...

The only correct memory configuration for the S340 series is 4 + 4, everything else is brake.

Lenovo marketers intentionally spoil normal laptops for the home as a whole, deliberately limiting people with a normal 8+8 memory config, without soldering 8GB with one slot or without install 2 memory slots, although there’s a lot of space and installing it costs a penny. This is all done maliciously in order to sell more expensive series, the rest are no different in the composition of hardware...

Thanks for the response. This laptop used for only home purpose so I am not planning to upgrade RAM (4+4) 8GB is fine.

All, I wants to know to increase the storage from 256GB it has now and if it has a extra slot to insert additional SSD. for storage.

As mentioned previously, I will be looking for 2.5" 7mm SSD to upgrade for storage upgrade for this laptop.
