My machine: Lenovo Ideapad U310
Model 4375
I would like to know if I could replace my 500 GB HDD with a
Crucial MX500 500GB SATA 2.5-inch 7mm Internal SSD.
I read that mine is SATA 3.0, but that one is SATA 6. Would that work? And could it handle that storage space amount? Thanks!

Good day and welcome to the community.
As I understand it, the SATA standard is backward-compatible. An SATA-6 storage device should work fine in an SATA-3 slot, albeit at the slower speed, as long as it physically fits.
Regards.

I have a Crucial MX500 1TB and it's working like a charm !
but what is that 9.5mm adapter that you mentioned ? no adapter required for your machine

Your machine appears to have a empty M.2 2280 slot. In addition to the spinner slot.
State full machine type and model for better assistance.
The MX500 SSD is a 2.5 inch SATA III 6 Gb/s Interface. It will fit in your HDD slot.
The HDD slot holds a SLIM hdd. The 2.5 inch is also slim.

Hey thanks everyone for your awesome help and quick replies! Also for your welcoming greeting. As I am new to this group, I'm not sure why my post did this: but I originally wrote U310 not y520. I do not own a y520 but a U310 ...lmao. it must have autocorrected at some point? Anywho, hopefully it's not that different as SATAs are SATAs across models

Hey that's good to know! Did it speed up your apps? I have to run things like IDEs for coding and virtual machines. My machine how it is now just isn't cutting it so a buddy suggested I get an SSD. Also the 9 adapter bit was just from copy/pasting the title lol. I removed it, thanks

I use PNY. Compare prices.

You can also add a Msata and put your OS on it.
It would reside in the PCIe mini card slot, if this slot is empty.
