Lenovo U530 Memory Upgrade

2015-06-16, 15:08 PM

I have a Lenovo U530 Touch with 8GB of ram that I would like to upgrade to 16GB.  I have seen in some places that the 8GB is the maximum allowed on this laptop. Is this definitely the case or can more than 8GB be used? Also if it can be upgraded what kind of RAM should I be looking to purchase?

Thanks

This unit only supports 1 SO DIMM with 8 as its Max

Hi.  I have the same question, and have reviewed the HMM.   Is it possible the max RAM is listed as 8GB because that was the maximum available on a single DDR3L SODIMM when the HMM was published?  Larger modules are plentiful now, and not expensive.  I frequently max out my 8 GB RAM as part of my normal workload (which isn't that butch -- email, some spreadsheets, a couple of utilities...).  Would sure be nice to expand to 16GB.  I just don't know if there are other hardware constraints beyond the SODIMM that limit RAM to 8GB.  Anyone out there have experience here?  TIA.

Hello,

I've just got the same model from my colleague. So same question here, did somebody tried to install a 16 Gb ram single module in the U530?

what could prevent this from working actually?

a single module costs approx. 180 USD so this would be great if somebody could give us some information here

thanks in advance!

I'm pretty certain you're incorrect as to the MAX.  The HMM only details what the unit ships with.  Nothing suggests any hardware limiters on how a 64bit OS would not be able to use 16GB RAM.
