Lost Bios Password, Windows 8.1 working. Bios reflash ?

2014-02-20, 11:08 AM

Hello, i have an u410 with bios 65CN15WW, and i lost my bios Password.

is it possible to reflash it with a newer version, so that the cmos will get cleared ?

i also tried removing the cmos  battery and all other power connections, but it was not cleared :(

i replaced the hard drive and now it is running windows 8.1 32 bit from my other Laptop.

The Support Hotline and Chat does not want to help me, they want to have my ideapad in their service center to REPLACE MY WORKING MAINBOARD (i think this is pretty bad Service...)

Hi ramsonline, welcome to the forums,

if you forget the BIOS supervisor password it will be necessary to replace the mainboard.  Please refer to the system's hardware maintenance manual; on pdf page 28 it states "Attention: If the SVP has been forgotten and cannot be made available to the servicer, there is no service procedure to reset the password. The system board must be replaced for a scheduled fee."

Sorry, but you only other realistic option would be to remember the password.

This is the worst thing i have ever heard of ...

Somebody should be able to rewrite the Bios to its defaults... why isn't it cleared when i remove the Battery ?

Where is it stored ? some kind of eeprom ?

Not being able to reset the supervisor password, without knowing it, has been common practice since notebooks were first built; it is a security measure.

Please remember that the forum guidelines forbid discussion on subverting security measures;  "No posts shall include instructions or directions intended to subvert security measures, including passwords, locking mechanisms, fingerprint scans, etc, or to subvert safety measures. Nor shall any posts provide descriptions to the location of, nor direct links to content related to these topics."
