Re: My new u310 gives really low speeds on wifi

So, this is all the information we gonna get? A guy acting like a potsmoking buddah brabbeling about nature powers and microwaves and another one informing us graciously that he knows that a problem exists and someone is somewhere somehow working on it? It's like you don't even want us to keep those laptops. You can't tell me that a company like Lenovo couldn't even figure out til now if they are able to fix this problem or if it's a hardware production failure. That's absurd.

Well put jimmbo, i totally agree with the way you said it. I did not check it in the 14 days period, it is already 3 weeks since i got it, otherwise i would give it back right away...so i spend 800 euros on a machine that does not even do basic things such as decent wifi connection. Stupid me !!!

Just joined the discussion you guys. I recently ordered it (jul 9.)been testing out the u310.
Its amazing when ur sitting next to a router in the same room, but other than that im barely getting any signal! Its very frustrating/disappointing when this is the only issue. The laptop is great in all aspects except WiFi...Been following this thread, but worried about a making a return or dealing the issue over with someone at Lenovo... And i am starting college soon so..

Hi OKR-MAN, You should have been a Bollywood scriptwriter! You indeed have a way with words but alas words will not help hundreds of disgruntled customers! What about the hours and hours of work we missed out on, what about deadlines? Lenovo might not worry about their customers but we have to keep our customers happy! My issue is that this is a brand new machine and for a screwup of this level the Lenovo folks should be apologising and handholding the customers with their tails between their feet! The response I am getting from them is just not satisfactory enough. My only point of contact is the poor retailer who at least answers my calls and tries to connect me with senior tech support staff. Today I was told by a senior tech guy in Bangalore that my machine would be replaced - this after a week of running around and dealing with inept tech support staff. I don't know if you are a Lenovo employee but if you aren't one you should be getting paid for fighting the battle on their behalf. There is no guarantee that the replacement will work as well! Fingers crossed! Will keep you all posted! Please continue posting your stinkers here!

Got the same problem here. Quite disappointed into seeing that there are so many unsatisfied customers around with exactly the same problems, and Lenovo not releasing any clarifying information.

However: If I would plug in a wireless external receiver, would it at least solve the problem? Maybe I could borrow this from a relative or buy one, but I would like to know whether it'll work first.

Another unsatisfied customer here.
please Lenovo, fix this problem ASAP.
I need to use this laptop in college soon, I don't have any money left to buy extra usb adapter etc. All my money was gone to this product.

Thank you Mark/Lenovo for acknowledging the problem and saying that you are working to solve it.

But it would be great if you could tell us what kind of fix we can expect, especially if you think that the problem is solvable through a BIOS update or if we will have to send our laptops in. A prediction when this is going to happen would also be very useful.

I believe a lot of people here need to actually use there laptops now (in my case for university) and the uncertainty is making me quite a bit nervous.

Best regard,

Alex

Yep, I'm getting the same too. Between 5 and 19 Mbits, when the Macbook Air next to it is getting 50Mbits. I've got a U310 on a broadcom chip. It takes about 2 minutes from boot for the wifi exclamation mark to go and I can use the net. Anyone tried it with Linux?

Betreff: My new u310 gives really low speeds on wifi

2012-07-19, 15:30 PM

I tried it with Linux (Arch Linux 64bit) and the broadcom-wl driver on an U310 with a broadcom chip: poor signal, short range (if I go 2 rooms further from the router I can't connect). Sometimes I don't even see the wifi networks when others besides me do.

This really is a pity. The laptop has the best Linux compatibility from all those I've used so far. Everything worked out of the box. The design is nice and the chassis is top quality. It seemed to be the perfect laptop until I noticed the wifi failure.

Unfortunately I heavily depend on wifi at university and I had to return the laptop :(

I hope the Lenovo devs/techs will find a simple solution that works for Linux too. If they do, I'm willing to grab an U310 again.
