Re: Lenovo U410 problems connecting to wireless network

2012-07-23, 23:26 PM

Hi Everyone,

I had the same problems as all of you here - unpacked my ultrabook, set it all up and then went to use the wireless in several rooms and the results were consistent with yours - crappy.

I read through these threads and found all the links from lenovo support to be dead as well. I did some more searching and found this update that seemed to be released shortly after all these complaints. I've installed the update to the Intel Wireless set and it seems to have done the trick. I'm just a hack who knows nothing about computers and I've got full bars now. Hopefully it works for everyone else: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS028799

Cheers,

~t

@ dawn1202

I purchase the USB adapter at Staples for $24.99. You may be able to order online for less - I needed it right away.

Installation is easy, but you'll have to download the driver direct from Netgear's website.

@twnielsen, that driver is already 5 weeks old, and it unfortunately does not help with the issue.

@LENOVO
Any update on the issue? More units getting sold, more people face the issue, and the anger/annoyance level is rising at an increasingly rapid rate.

Hello Everyone,

There is no excuse for such tardy product from a multinational IT company. Lenovo has acknowledged the problem. Just return your machines and ask them to your money. I did it. Had to chase them  a lot and shoot off mails to the highest Lenovo officials. But it worked! The jinxed machine (310) is out of my house! My cheque is on its way! Full refund and nothing less.

Cheers,

Amit

Hello Amit,

Perhaps you could share those contact details from the officials at lenovo. Maybe it would be a good idea to bomb them with e-mail about this issue, and that way somebody will get tired and actually do something about it. It has been one month for me since i have this problem, talked to a lot of people at customer support, and all i get is that either they have no idea, either they are working on it...i wonder how long does working on it mean, because we are reaching the limit to our patience.

Regards

After waiting as long as I could, I finally returned my U310.

Since Lenovo still does not seem to know what is causing the problem (or they don't bother to tell us, their paying customers) it seemed to be the best thing to do. Oh, an estimation when we could expect a fix would have been really nice, too.

By the way, amazon.de has stopped selling the U310. Now there is an info box that "customers have informed us that the product does not meet the description on this website". Very interesting.

Alot of people are well beyond the 7/14-day return policy.. My only option is for lenovo to come with a fix :/

I am not sure if you all have solved your issue with the Ideapad U310. I was frustrated the past  2 days with this. I tried many things. I did call lenovo support today 7/24/2012.  There have been many issues with Windows 7 software and Mcafee apparently and this is  not a hardware issue or lenovo issue other than the laptop came with Mcafee. They told me to do this and it worked.

1. Unplug Laptop and drain battery or unplug and press power button for 10-30 seconds

2. Restart

3. Uninstall Mcafee

4. Disable Firewall

5. Restart

6. WIFI worked perfect

7. Now install another antivirus like  microsoft essenstials or something

Hope this helps

Just got my U410 from Costco. Thus far I have had no issues with the wifi. Speeds seem to be pretty decent (nothing spectacular), but I certainly am not complaining of any ridiculously slow speeds.

One of the first things I did when I started this up was uninstall McAfee. McAfee is notorious for really screwing with your system performance so whenever you get that pre-installed, get rid of it and get something better and more efficient.
