All,

We have made progress on this, and we should be able to provide an official update shortly .

I understand the position of those who could not wait, and elected to return their systems.  I can assure you that this issue does have our full attention.

Thanks !

Mark

Thanks, Mark. I hope it'll be sooner rather than later.

I tried the suggestion of uninstalling McAfee. When I first got this computer, I installed Norton and during the installation process, it informed me that it had to uninstall McAfee. Aparently it didn't completely uninstall it because when I just looked, it was still there, so I uninstalled it, powered off and rebooted, but the problem didn't go away. So I'm still needing a permanent fix.

@TXAgs18

Do you think McAfee is the problem then (or one of the problems)? I believe I remember when I first got my u310 unboxed, wifi was just fine in one room, but I believe I remember seeing a McAfee update (I guess like you said, McAfee was preinstalled) right after I started using it. NOW, I'm having problems because in the very same room, I would only get 3 bars. In my parents room, no connection whatsover.. and in the basement where the router is, I would get incredible performance. I unboxed mine jul13th, so please get back to me if you think I have a shot with wifi performance b/c of McAfee or any other preinstalled programs.

As I'm following these posts (like I said in previous ones, I'm not a techie), I've only read so far a couple of temporary solutions like buying a wireless wifi usb or uninstalling McAfee. I'm going to college soon and I think I am over my return limit (and I doubt my parent won't let me return this), I'd like to know what others are doing who still have their u310 or u410 and how they are doing now that they've tried the McAfee uninstall (or other programs)

Thanks.

@ FatStabler

From what your previous post states, are you keeping your u310? IF you are, please tell me how your connection is working now (at home or outside like Starbucks/library) I've talked it over one of my parents and they're pretty agitated over the thought of even purchasing the usb adaptor.

So, I'll pretty much buy one myself (because I simply can't return this laptop and I need it for school) when I'm away from them in college.

Thanks.

Dear Mark,

thanks for keeping us updated about this!

If you are working on a driver-based solution or something similar, please include Linux as well!

This laptop has perfect Linux compatibility, it would be a real waste to solve this issue for Windows only!

As I stated before, if this gets resolved (incl. Linux) I will happily get my hands on an U310 again.

Dear Mark!

I echo the words of M4he.

I really hope that solution is OS-independent. I've bought U310 because of its absolutely linux compatibility and it is very important to me. Otherwise I would have preferred DELL XPS 14z or something similar with discrete graphics.

Agree with @ZigBee. I installed Ubuntu 12.04 on my U310 machine and everything works fine and even better )

@psylone

Hi, thanks for sharing your note. Because of that, I am thinking of installing ubuntu now (free of charge). But ive had my laptop for about two weeks now w/ heavy usage only next to my router. Should I uninstall anything before getting ubuntu? Like Mcafee (im wondering bc of what other posts have stated recently). If I do the following, do you know if ubuntu will be compatible with accounting software? I apologize since I do not know alot about software compatibility; but I am going to college this fall and would like to know if ubuntu/linix will be completely different from windows7...

Thanks.
