Re: My new u310 gives really low speeds on wifi

2012-08-10, 15:25 PM

I made the update the Lenovo support team (Europe) sent me today BUT IT DOES NOT WORK ! It increases a bit the speed (if 3MB can be called "speed") but the range is still awful.

This is the update link they gave me (it should be the same update as on the Lenovo software platform):

http://cdn.medion.com/downloads/treiber/wlanu310_u410ww.exe

Guys tell me if you have better updates.

I hope the support team will really find a solution... and very soon !

Dear Mark_Lenovo,

I tried to keep calm, but your service is really disappointing.

We were told here that there is a hardware problem and should contact our local consumer support. Today i contacted the German Lenovo support. They were surprised that there is an issue with this series and asked me to do several tests (change router, check setup, etc., etc.....)

I told them that this is a common problem for many users and that we were told in this support forum to contact our local support for a hardware solution. The guy did a new check and told me later that he got the information that there is no hardware issue, but a driver update. I checked your homepage, but there is no new driver for wlan!?!? The latest driver is from April 24th 2012 for U410!?

I really do not want send my notebook for weeks to the german support team if they do not know what to do! Please submit your solution interally and give me information when I can contact the german lenovo support again for a competent solution and a appropriate fix.

Tom

Tom,

Just spoke with the Belgian support team. They are also very surprised by the problem "You are the first customer to call for that issue". Yesterday they told me it's a soft problem, but as their update doesn't work, today they're telling me it's finally a hardware problem and I have to send my laptop in Germany for 2 weeks !!!
I totally share your disappointment and I am very surprised by the poor communication within the company.

Don't now what to do, switch the brand or hopping somebody at Lenovo with do something !

I bought a u310 in Germany last week. Recognized the problem within 2 minutes after opening the box. Wifi connection was there but no traffic at all at a point where sony, hp and apple products have just normal wifi operations without any problems.

If this is a hardware issue, i would call the u310 unusable in a modern connected world.

All,

While we have communicated to our support centers, it can sometimes take a little extra time to reach every agent.

If you have called in, and you find the support agent is unsure / unaware, have them visit the support site, log in with their credentials (they will have to sign in).  Then, go to U310 or U410 (select the system via quick path), then select diagnose and fix, then hints and tips, and the turn the twisty on the "Networking: Wireless Lan" that will apear for them about halfway down the list.

I certainly don't want to create a perception that all wifi problems have only one possible cause and that this one hardware update is the right solution in call cases.  I think it is appropriate for support to verify that you have updated drivers, and that we rule out things like the wifi not connecting at all or other configuration errors.

But, we also want to ensure that if you are experiencing these reduced wifi performances issues, that we get service set up for you.

JWDAN,

Try moving your system closer to the router and restart and see if the time to connect is less / immediate.  If so, contact service.

Tom25, Apanican,

Please see above.  By Apanican's experience, it seems the agents have been briefed and should be providing more consistence guidance.    Turn around times through service should be in line with any other normal warranty repair - I'm not sure of transit times or why two weeks was quoted in this particular case.

SteveE,

The update is exact the same as what is being using in new production since July 23rd.  After sending in for service, there should be no difference between your system and a newer build.

Hi Mark,

I am a student and like most people on this website, need to use my U310 every day (whether for work or for school) so having it shipped somewhere for service is not an option.  I also don't have a car (had mine shipped to me from Amazon) so couldn't get it to a service location anyway.  What should I do? I have installed the software driver updates and am still experiencing issues of extremely slow downloads of less than 1mb/s when sitting literally a foot away from the router, and have no service about 30 feet away.  I ordered mine before July 23.

This is awesome news! It's unfortunate that there is a design flaw, but I appreciate that Lenovo is being honest about it and servicing the U310's with the problem. This is the right thing to do. Thanks!

@Mark: thank You for getting back to us. If the repair solution works, then I will keep it.

Is it right that The u310 from production date beginning July 23rd should not have this problem?

Thanks for clarification.

@all: please keep us posted of any progress

Hey!

Which component is being replaced (the mainboard i guess)? Is it possible to recover my Notebook from a backup made with one-click-recovery,  when I get it back? Or do I have to set it up from the start because of some driver issues?

Thanks,

Greets,

Sinsens
