I'm still awaiting new parts. I'll write here after getting laptop serviced if the repairs take less time than allowed.

Talked to Lenovo Germany a minute ago, they´re going to service it. Recent instructions/information they have here: Latest driver update has been withdrawn, customers should send their machines in for servicing.

Best

Hi @dawn,

I didnot much concentrate on the battery backup (i have U410) - will check that and let you know.

@lamecake: thanks for the information - if thats the case - i am returning it to AMAZON back and buy it again once the issue is resolved and the new stock is in with the new working hardware.

The other issue i still have is - my wireless disconnects when i plug in USB 3.0 hard disk in USB 3.0 port, which is still an issue with the latest driver and would not prefer if this is not fixed. No one from LENOVO team replied on this - may be they think this is minor issue compared to the wifi problem. But this would be anather burning topic after this.

I called support and they have not received any information about this hardware fix. When I tried to instruct them to log into the lenovo support site they were confused and told me they have no credentials for logging into the site. I showed her the post by Mark_Lenovo instructing to go to the hints and tips page, but that just brought us to this link: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?DocID=HT062557 There is no reference to a hardware fix for the wireless there.

So, is there really a fix? I do not want to send my laptop in for servicing if there isn't actually a tested fix available.

This is the correct link for the hardware fix I believe, but can not see the contents (need to login with field service credentials).

I made another test today after replacing the one screw that is connecting the wifi card to mainboard with an unshielded (metal) one in place of the black (original). The results are much much mode better and I believe that solved it. I did also a test with usb and hdmi connected and it also delivers a good performance (see below). You can try it if you have already opened the case and no warranty anymore. Hope this helps.

The wifi board inside is a small pc board that is plugged into a connector and held in place by a single screw (though there are two screw holes available).

It sounds like he is saying the original screw is black, and this black coating is non-conductive, thus preventing the wifi board from being properly "grounded". This could make the RF signal intermittent, assuming all the ground pins in the connector are not enough.

He replaced this black screw with a silver screw, presumably now conductive, and his problem appears to be corrected.

This is what I assume he is saying...

It would be nice if Lenovo would just come out and say what the problem is, so owners have the option of fixing their own computer rather than sending it in for service and losing the use of it for a month.
