UK'er here. I've got my letter from Medion now with instructions on what to do along with a pre-printed shipping label. However the instructions do not mention whether I should return my PSU too.. Also, the address the laptop is going to looks like it's in Germany o_O Blimey! The letter also quotes 2-4 working days for delivery each way, along with 10 working days to do the work. I hope it will be quicker than that, but only time will tell.

So now that the problem seems to have been identified, if I order a new U310 or U410 ultrabook, say, next week, is there a chance it will have the WIFI problem?  I ask because I wish to buy a new ultrabook and save for this one wifi error, the u310 is my favorite.

New U310 - RETURNED

2012-08-15, 2:39 AM

Bought my wife a U310 as a present.

She loved the look, feel, but almost instantly  uncovered it would not stay connected to our home wireless network. We have multiple Macs, Tablets, etc all connection with no issues anywhere in our house. However, this machine would not connect or stay connected at all.

After much fiddling I found I had to be within 15 of our wireless router to make it work or it would drop the singnal.

Tried to update drivers, tweaking the driver settings etc, all with no success....then did a few Google searchs and found an avalanche of others with the same problem. It was returned within 3 days of the purchase as a result of the issues with wireless stability.

Too bad....such a nice machine, such a horrible error Lenova. Really don't think I will consider another Lenovo for the replacement unless I can get reassured it will be 100% working

Getting the WiFi Production Fix on 2 U410's today!

2012-08-15, 14:23 PM

I posted my wifi performance testing back on 8/06 (pg 24 of this post). I was about to go the USB wifi adapter route when Mark posted that a production fix was in place for U310/410 notebooks made after 7/23 and that the same fix would be used to repair notebooks built prior to 7/26.

I dropped off my 2 U410's yesterday at FedEx and just checked their status and they were received at the North Carolina service center about an hour ago. I should get them back by Friday - I'll repeat my wifi tests and post my results here no later than Friday night.

Ken

akaranikolis,

If you are ordering through Lenovo direct, all orders would be filled by new stock (7/23/12 or later build).

I sent in my laptop today, should arrive on the 17th. The support agent over the phone wasn't very sure about the issue, but they said if its known and stuff the people at the service center will know what to do.

Hopefully I'll get my laptop back before the 26th (school starts) & it'll be working :>

Re: My new u310 gives really low speeds on wifi

Hi Mark_Lenovo, I am looking to buy a U410, so my question is, if I'm not buying from Lenovo direct, how do I know that the laptop has been manufactured after 23rd July 2012, is it just a case of looking on the box ?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Mark,

Thanks for confirming the fix.

I want to get the laptop replaced with the working one manufactured after 23rd as you mentioned.(which is with the fix)

I bought it from AMAZON UK - do amazon now have latest ones?

Also could you please also confirm the fix applied will also resolve the problem of wifi getting disconnected when USB3.0 HDD plugged into the USB3.0 port?

My wifi connection on my new U310 is extremely slow! Under 0,3 Mps (test on speedtest.net). I bought it in Texas six weeks ago, but moved to Belgium for studies. What should I do? I understand that the product should be sent back?

Thanks.
