Re: My new u310 gives really low speeds on wifi

2012-08-16, 12:53 PM

This morning I've got email from russian lenovo support team, they told I can pick up laptop with confirmation of impossibility of repair from service center. For returning it to the shop.
After that i've called to service center and they told me that they doesn't know anything about my case.
Sounds strange.
Lets see how long time can take comunication between support and service center.

Hello all,

Most of us are using laptop as it is, cordless, without power supply connected. Try advanced settings in power options.

Mine was on power saver, when it is on battery, there are some improvements

Regards

Got confirmation of non-repair from service, tomorrow I will try to refund.
And maybe buy new U310, manufactured after 23 July.

@Mark_Lenovo. I solve the problem with the bad range. I change the energy setttings. The problems whit the long time before I get connetion was becaus of mcafee. I deleted mcafee en the problem was gone. I bought a mcafee licence (i had several other computer with mcafee) install mcafee agian en the wifi still works. So maybe you can solve many problems to delete mcafee. Goog luck

Good news, someone on another forum got a U410 (post July 29 build) and reports his wifi works great.

Hey @Four..

Could you also ask him to test - pluging in a USB 3.0 hdd in USB 3.0 port and  check if the wifi gets disconnected or it works fine.

If thats fixed i am gonna re-order this laptop

cheers

D.

U410 wifi has been fixed by North Carolina service center!

2012-08-18, 0:07 AM

I posted my orginal testing back on 8/06 and just finished some quick tests of the 2 U410's I got back this afternoon. Wifi signals on both are now stable and download speeds are close to the Dell 11z.

Speeds for the 20 foot path were basically the same as before ~2 Mbps which was close to the Dell. The 40 foot path now works 5-6X better than before (now around 1.5-1.8 Mbps) and the 40 foot path at the back of house now actually runs the speedtest.net download with a speed of ~0.5Mbps - before it wouldn't run at all. The Dell runs this last test ~1.0 Mbps - possibly helped by its plastic bottom and lid.

I also plugged in a USB 3.0 drive and it still maintained a wifi connection however I don't think our 410's were losing the connection before the repair.

Ken,

Thanks so much for sharing the comparative benchmarking before and after the repair, and the comparison to another system at the same test spot in your home.  In our testing, we benchmarked before and after the update against a U300s, (another Lenovo ultrabook) and found that the U410 now slightly bests its performance in some locations.

As you note, other system designs, antenae placements, and cover composition (plastic vs aluminum) may deliver different results when compared location to location.

Best regards,

Mark

Hi Mark,

Is there a procedure to follow for the U310, what do we have to do? I contacted the Lenovo support line in Belgium, but they don't know what to do either? Is there a software solution or does the machine has to be sent for service? Thanks for letting us know! Because an ultrabook without wifi is pretty useless!

Cheers
