Hello PtotheJ,

Thank you for sharing your problem here.

Can you please mention what was the MANUFACTURING DATE of your laptop?

Thanks.

The manufacturing date was July 27, 2012, which I thought was recent enough for the hardware fix, but I was obviously wrong.  It is inconceivable to me how this company can continue selling these models.  When cars have an issue, they do a public recall.  This is no different.

Re: My new u310 gives really low speeds on wifi

Hi,

I just got my U310 and somehow it is slower than my Dell when detecting my school's wifi.

Manufacture date is 8/23/2012(says on the side of the cover box).

How to fix it?

The speed is comparable with the Dell though. Just I need to wait for at least 3 min before the wifi is connected (The Dell one connects immediately).

Thanks.

Hello PtotheJ,

Thank  for your response.

Well, I will NOT GO FOR THIS LENOVO PRODUCT or perhaps any now in this case irrespective of its manufacturing Date.

It also means that Lenovo Team's comment here that "post 23 July 2012 manufactured Ultrabooks are without defect as problem has been fixed", is NOT TRUE!

I absolutely wonder Why is Lenovo not withdrawing all of these defected products from the market worldwide and issue a public informaiton call on this as PtotheJ said in his comment.

TEAM LENOVO-> Can we have a "definite response" on this from you please? I am also a Lenovo Y500 customer and We deserve this response.

Thanks to PtotheJ again.

Regards.

Finally got my U410 back from repairs (Took 3 weeks). Apparently they changed the wi-fi module (the same Intel Centrino N-2200 as before) and updated the BIOS.

Guess what, the Wi-Fi is STILL extremely unstable as soon as you're not next to the router while my other devices work perfectly.

With your horrible support, worthless techs that apparently are not updated on the fact that this widespread problem even exists and your EXTREMELY slow service all made sure that I will never buy a Lenovo again or recommend it.

If anyone has a solution, please tell me because the support ''specialists'' know nothing about this.

Screw you Lenovo.

Re: My new u310 gives really low speeds on wifi

My experience with U310 (India, build May'12)

The beginning:

My late evening purchase of U310 was eventful. I'd planned to get a MacBook Air 13" (MBA). But certain reservations about MBA, opportunity to save some bucks & the dark impulse to buy resulted in a predicament.

The conflict:

Same night, as I opened the lid of my new laptop, I could smell -- as everybody here knows -- WiFi issues. Within minutes I was on this thread  -- on my desktop -- and my 'experience' of purchase was polluted with regret, fear and disappointment. I stayed up almost the entire night, and my hunt continued in the morning -- I took leave from my work. Threads/experiences confirmed my fear. I owned a defective box.

Suddenly, I could notice other issues with the laptop -- flexing of keyboard, the extremely light keys (which leaves one with a feeling of poor material quality), frequent undesired outputs of trackpad. The overall experience was -- simply -- sad.

The resolution:

I took a suggestion on this thread quite seriously -- 'return your laptop'. Most impactful was the article by some 'Bastler' (Second from top, Link: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Y-U-V-and-Z-series/My-new-u310-gives-really-low-speeds-on-wifi/td-p/790527/page/23). I am extremely grateful for your comment.

So, on the next evening of purchase, I went to the retailer and -- after 3-4 hours of persuassion -- finally convinced him for an exchange with another laptop. Those from India may understand the struggle.

After enough research I finally set my mind on MacBook Pro 13" -- of course at a premium. I got it within a week.

The experience of my first Mac was, again simply, awesome. The build quality, the trackpad, the design and almost everything is just wonderful -- and a lot better than U310. Macbook is an experience.

The ouput:

Every company has problems. Macbooks have their own history of hard drive failures. New OS X update (Apple) for Macs has -- and had -- serious battery, WiFi problems. As per users (apple forum), some of those issues still exist after years. I think 'issues' shall always exist. It , now, depends on what and how much can you tolerate. I've had Thinkpad R410 -- and I had loved it. The U310 experience was a disaster nullified by a great experience of a MacBook.

Do your research -- I tell myself -- before an expensive decision.

PS. I want to thank all the users -- vicitims, should I say? -- to highlight this issue.

Regards

Vikram

My build date was 8/8/2012 and I experienced wifi issues last night (1st time trying out, while installing software and updates) that are making me worry that I too have the same issues...  Will post again to confirm yes/no after more toying...

My u310 is downloading at about 20kb/s... Frankly this is an absolute joke and Lenovo needs to recall all these models or refund people their money.

At the very least pay for people to get a wifiadapter that actually works.

I wish I had seen this thread before purchasing.

@tcosupreme:
If your notebook doesn't connect to a WiFi from a distance or takes a long time to connect to network and the speeds are less than half of what you get on other devices, then you have the WiFi problem discussed in this thread.

IMO, you should start worrying, and take a decision -- to return it or to accept it with all its limitations.
