Re: My new u410 gives really low speeds on wifi

I sent my laptop for repair on the 20th; they received it on the 22nd. For those of you who received your u310/u410 back with successful repairs, can you recall what support told you they would do to your laptops? And if you didnt call support, but had help from helpful admins on this site, can you please tell me what they told you as well?

The lady I talked to said they would look at wifi card and test it..I dont exactly think if they simply changed the card would change anything. I explained my issue w/ my u310 to her: that I would only receive excellent connection next to router or one floor above the router.

@Mark_Lenovo

I tested a few U310 & U410 with that fix (mylar, copper foil.... ) and if you compare this with U300s, U400.. other laptops, it's still not enought. After WiFi fix connection is more stable but not so much faster.

IMHO antennas connected to the hinge is a bad design...

I'm having the same problem.  Wi-Fi on my U310 is horrible.  Give us a solution!

Reporting from Germany here, I purchased my u310 about 4 weeks ago at MediaMarkt and have the same issue. My old laptop had no problem picking up a good signal in my room, but with my ideapad u310 I can barely get a wifi signal and I experience horribly low speed. Also, it takes a while for it to connect to the wireless network, much longer than my old laptop.

I haven't read all 39 pages of this thread but I gathered that there still isn't a solution to this. It seems to be a software problem though? Unfortunately I won't be able to return my ultrabook to MediaMarkt if it's a software issue....very disappointing!

Will there be a solution available? Just in case, manufacturing date for this ultrabook is May 2012

Re: My new u310 gives really low speeds on wifi

Thanks to this forum thread, I am holding off my purchase of a U410.  Can anyone explain, including Lenovo, what changed between the U300/U400 design and the U310/U410 to cause this issue?  Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was not aware of WiFi issues on the U300/U400 series.  While I understand the evolution to 3rd generation Intel, removal of the DVD drive in the case of the U410, if WiFi was working in the U300/U400, how could Lenovo screw up so bad in their design, testing, and QA?  Furthermore, does the pressure to be number #1 in the world mean that Lenovo has to push bad product out the door to beat the competition to the punch and let good guys like Mark_Lenovo battle the escalations as they come?  I have worked with Mark before on an video issue with the T60 and he was instrumental with his ability to push things on the forums behalf internally and obtain a fix.  It turned out to be a driver issue.  Personally, I don't know what he can do with this particular WiFi issue, if hardware and design related, and how much influence he has on pushing for change in the design, testing, and QA areas.  Good luck all.

It is a harware problem as Mark suggested.

In my case it happens even though my U410 manfuacturing date is way past July 23rd 2012, it's Aug 17 2012.

Mark: What is the procedure to return the laptop for a full refund? I can not put up with this laptop anymore.

A hardware problem would be "good news" since then I can actually do something about it! Mark, what is the specific problem and could I send my ultrabook to lenovo in Germany to get it fixed?

What I find most frustrating on this whole experience.....

Bought a U310 from Futureshop before I heard of this issue and had to return it because the wirless dropped off if more than 15 feet from the access point...so it was returned

Read about ths issue. Tried 3 other lcoal stores not one had a machine manufactured before the critical date

Was suggested I buy direct from Lenovo, but their price was HIGHER and they wanted to charge shipping

Looked again at local stores because they advertised a large price drop....they still had the same stock and were unaware of the problem. Why are the defective machines not getting taken off the shelf and replaced with corrected machines. This seems like a very poor decision. Appears Lenovo wants customers to buy defective products.

So, I asked the sales rep to turn one on and prove it works and he said they cant because of licensing and some other excuses, so I walked out and did not purchase one.

Frankly, I give up on you Lenovo. You have lost a customer who was very excited about your product, one who has tried to buy your machines multiple times !!

Gutted, both me and my girlfriend have spent today going round various shops in London looking at laptops as we need to replace our 7 year old sony vaio's, we'd decieded to save a bit of £££ and go for the u410 rather then the Macbook pro. Thought I'd take a look at a few reviews before taking the plunge, very glad I have now.

Find it hard to believe people John Lewis are still stocking them if it's getting such BAD reports but I doubt we'll take the risk, shame as we liked the u410.

Two customers lost to Apple I am afraid :-(
