New Bios Version 67 Flashing Trouble

2009-05-07, 0:25 AM

I'm having trouble flashing the latest, or any bios for that matter.  I'm running WinPhlash that is supplied with the bios package on XP SP3.  I keep getting error 144 "bios unflashable".  I'm able to backup my current bios however.  Any Ideas?,

PS:  This is the first time I tried flashing my lenovo, however I was able to flash my GF's who has a pink one.

Thanks in Advance,

ej424

I've successfully flashed my BIOS many times but this time I get the same error as above (-144).  I'm running Windows RC BTW...

Any Ideas,

Thanks,

J

I replied to your post on the fan thread, and yes I have the same

error -144.

My current BIOS is 14CN38WW, S10 (without 'e'), and Windows XP SP3.

There is a discussion about this here:

No solution so far, you may  want to keep an eye there.

Hi

Did you try a boot to pure DOS (no memory manager) - i.e. using a bootable USB thumb drive and

run PHLASH16.EXE /C /S /FORCE BIOS.WPH ?

All,

So that we can investigate these concerns, could those on this thread please provide some additional information:

1) Are you using the preload?

2) What version BIOS are you trying to update from?

3) Are you applying this to an S9/S10 or an S9e/S10e system?

I understand that some of this is covered in sporadic form - one member noted XP SP3, another Bios 38.   Seeing the pattern accross multiple customers will help us understand the situation more completely.

Best regards,

Mark

Just on question from my side. This Bios is intended only for S9/S10 (no e), isn't. Because I would try to fals on my S10e (Bios 66) if this ins't the case. I'm just asking because Mark said something about a unified Bios for all models in the "Fan to loud" thread.

Greetings Mano

Manoelzer,

Officially, we need to keep the S9/S10 lines seperate from the S9e/S10e for multiple reasons including specific markets and customer sets, support and service strategies, preloads (including the quickstart application and difference in the R & R vs OKR recovery schemes)

The version 66 Bios for the S9e and S10e was removed from it's support site due to some concerns over ability to properly detect some new systems where it should not be installed.   I expect an equivalent version to 67 to be released for the S9e/S10e shortly.

As a personal test, I just installed the consumer S9/S10 bios version 67 onto and S10e that had been at version 51, and it was successful.  I'm not recommending this as a Lenovo solution, and am sharing my personal results.

I'm trying to understand what the unique variable is for those members above who reported the error 144 issues.  Obviously 67 passed test and seems to work for most, however we should understand anything abnormal and work to resolve.

Thanks,

Mark

Same problem here on S10 with XP SP3.

I don't know what you mean by "preload". I downloaded the update and ran the executable. Error 144.

Updating from BIOS 58.

  1. ditto on the "don't know what you mean by "preload." Downloaded and ran executable as administrator...
  2. I was trying to upgrade from 58, and I'm running Windows 7RC
  3. Computer is a S10, not an "e"
