Re: New Bios Version 67 Flashing Trouble

2009-05-08, 5:23 AM

Model: S10

BIOS: 58

O/S: Windows 7, Release 7000 (Beta) (haven't gotten around to RC yet! hehe)

I used the WinFlash utility from the site.

While I tried unplugging the battery and other 'small' tips - all to no avail - I won't be attempting any SW-related workaround until Lenovo figures out what's going on.

I'm sorely disappointed that this update we've waited on for over a month is failing install on a significant number of computers... with no apparent tie to boot.   I've owned (and, as a profession, sell) computers of every design and capability and I have to say that while Mark's support on these boards has been without peer, the good folks in Lenovo's engineering are near the opposite end of the spectrum.

I'm okay with products being buggy (as long as they're fixed)... I'm just not down with products not working at all.

Re: New Bios Version 67 Flashing Trouble

Hi

Error code : -144

Description: BIOS is not flashable.

Usually this error when trying to flash indicates you are using a BIOS that does not match your type/model or

that the BIOS cannot be flashed because the S10 is running from battery power.

The solution is to plug in the AC adaptor before booting up.

Maybe the S10 "assumes" it's running from battery, even though it is actually running from the AC adaptor..

Re: New Bios Version 67 Flashing Trouble

Not the case here.  Model is S10 (not E version) I have tried from Windows XP SP2 and SP3 same result.  I also have treid using a boot disk without himem just basic dos, with phlash16 utilty flasing from floppy with same results.  I hate to bash Lenovo becasue typically they have a great product but these S10 netbooks are a joke with all the issues with the Fan and now this.

After an hour on the phone with Support I finally covinced them this needs to be sent in for RMA.  Its on the way in the mail as we speak.  I'll let you know the final verdict,  could someone who did succsully go to version 67 tell me if it even fixes teh fan issue after the 3 bios attempt on doing so.

Thanks,

PS i forgot to mention I did a full power drian as well and then tried flashign with only ac power, still same result.  If you google around you wont find a solution to this issue , as the reccomendation always points to RMA on this issue.  I tried different versions as well and same issue, so its not specifically linked to this bios release.

RMA - why why why? Its obvious Lenovo is doing a check on the part # and some are failing. Its not a fault with the S10 hardware, they simply need to release another BIOS update that has the full list of valid part numbers.

And other then the screen turning off when you close the lid I see no difference between version 58 and 67 anyway, no difference with the fan.

Mark_Lenovo,

I'm using IdeaPad S10:

Model Name: 4231

Current BIOS: 14CN38WW

Mfg Date: 08/11/21

OS: WinXP Home SP3

When I update the BIOS with 14CN67WW, I get Error 144. (BIOS unflashable.)

Pls help to check why.

Model: S10

BIOS: 38

O/S: Windows 7, RC and XP SP3

2GB RAM

6 cell Battery

Error code : -144

Description: BIOS is not flashable.

Have tried numerous times, always with the AC adapter plugged in and battery power at 100% and get the same error code. This error sounds fairly common, so hopefully Lenovo has a fix in the works.

Note: I was successful in flashing the BIOS to 59 but the 67 still gives the -144 error code.

@TheSteve

I don't think they are doing a check on the part number. I could flash my S10e perfectly well (going from Version 66 to 67) and the bios is not intended for that model.

Model: S10

BIOS: 38

OS: Windows xp home sp3

RAM: 1GB

Error code : -144 Description: BIOS is not flashable.

Stock settings, no significant changes have been made to the system, and is mainly being used for word processing, so I don't think it is a user error on my part.
