New Ideapad U310, how to reduce fan speed?

Hey everyone,

I got a new ideapad U310 this weekend. I'm very happy with it, accept for the fan. It seems to go fast for no reason. I found some old topics on this forum, one with a bios update, but it does not seem to work anymore on the current bios version unfortunately.

Can anyody please help me? The fan noise is very annoying and after 2 days of working with the ideapad I rather have it turned off to get rid of the noise than continue working on it. Smiley Sad

Re: New Ideapad 310, how to reduce fan speed?

Hi Sealaa,

It's the U310, model name 4375.

I don't play games on it. Just surfing the internet, use word, prezi, etc not even simultaneously.

The fan just starts right off after booting Windows. It's especially the high pitch tone that comes with the fan blowing that is annoying, especially when I'm in a silent room.

Other things that I'm discovered today:

- clicking sound of the hard drive, although all disk checks / SMART status say the hd is ok

- sound hickups in songs when playing tunes through itunes or winamp

If you could help me with the fan or with any of the other problems it would be greatly appreciated!

Tim

Re: New Ideapad 310, how to reduce fan speed?

Update:

- concerning the fan speed I have tried Speedfan, TPfancontrol and the bios update on this forum, all don't work on this version of the U310

- concerning the hd clicking I have tried hdparm, seatools and quiethdd, which also don't work.

Any advise anyone?? Id really appreciate it!! Thanks...

How did you solve it eventually? I am having exactly the same issue. Would greatly appreciate any help from this forum.

Re: New Ideapad 310, how to reduce fan speed?

I found that if I put my finger over the fan vents on the left side and hold it there the high-pitched noise stops (or you can't hear it at least). I also found that if I put an object up against the vents so they're blocked from blowing air out or over the vents (a piece of tape) the high-pitched noise stops as well.  That's the only fix I know of unless you take out the fan.

Re: New Ideapad U310, how to reduce fan speed?

Hello. Bought brand new Ideapad 310 15ISK (I3 Skylake...). New instalation of Win10Home, I uninstalled all bloatware already...

Fan is running all the time...noise is so annoying that I'm almost ready to give up and return this laptop...

I did try TPfan utility but it is not working, fan revs are uncontrolable...any hints??

Sound does not stop even when laptop is idle, running on battery, no load on processor (0.48GHz), this is crazy Smiley Sad(((((((((((((((((((((

Re: New Ideapad U310, how to reduce fan speed?

I too have a new Ideapad 310 Intel i7-7500.  Purchased Dec 2016.  Ever since the first day, the fan has been very noisey,  I have used compressed air, and verified no dust, have an emaculately clean environment, but the noise is so annoying.  Has anyone found a solution?  Do they just use noisey fans?  A lady at our church also has a Lenovo Ideapad and her fan is noisey as well.

Any suggestions?
