Quick Start on S400?

Hi,

Just bought a new S400, the specs on Amazon suggest it has a quick start function.

It's mentioned in v1 of the handbook, but seems to have disappeared in v2.

I've tried the Fn + F3 key on boot, but it does nothing.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Richard

Re: Quick Start on S400?

Hi Richard,

Thanks for posting and welcome to the Lenovo Community,

I’d like to ask you about the quick start which you want to access from your system I’d like to confirm to you that Lenovo S400 doesn’t have Quick start for the system and if it has it would have the button which is QS to access the Quick start but FN and F3 is for the volume.

Could you explian to me more about your inquiry.

Hope the information helps. Let us know.

Regards

Soha

Re: Quick Start on S400?

Hi, thanks for the quick reply.

Quick Start is listed on the specification of the laptop on Amazon (where I bought the laptop) and also in the user guide on page 27.

With a boot time of just a few seconds, Lenovo Quick Start offers a handy
environment that allows you to enjoy instant access to functions such as Web
browsing, instant messaging and other functions, without starting the
Windows operating system.

Re: Quick Start on S400?

Hi RiCu,

Thank you so much for explaining this to me and I’d like to confirm to you that you’re absolutely right and it should be entering the Quick Start by pressing on Fn and F3,

Could you please tell me when you use any other function key is it working fine?

I’d like to advise you if you have Lenovo Energy management to uninstall it and restart the system and reinstall it back from the below link:

Windows8:

Lenovo Energy Management

Windows7:

Lenovo Energy Management

And I’d like to ask you if you have installed a new operating system on your machine and erased the preloaded OS?

Hope the information helps. Let us know.

Regards

Soha

Re: Quick Start on S400?

Hi SESoha,

Thanks again for another quick reply.

I've not uninstalled the pre-loaded OS (Windows8). All other hotkeys and function keys are working fine.

I will try uninstalling and reinstalling the Lenovo Energy Management software.

The link I sent you was for v1 of the User Guide, the Quick Start functionality is not mentioned in v2 - I wondered if that meant that the Quick Start had been removed from later machines?

Re: Quick Start on S400?

Hi Guys,

 Just an addition

If you're running windows 7 you can go ahead and check your programs for a current quickstart software installed

Uninstall it first

Go to ->Control Panel -> Programs -> Programs and Features

Look for Quick Start then click uninstall.

then download and install this one

Quick Start

Windows 7 32bit, / Windows 7 64bit

IN10STW09WW5.exe
628 MB

this one is for s100 which i tried on an S300 and it worked Properly.

It should work on S400 as compatability with S300.

If its there try following these steps on how to use it

-Turn off your Computer

- Turn it back on while Holding down the Fn key and tapping F3

Click here and navigate to page 19 for more information on how to use/run  Lenovo QuickStart.

Hope this helps, let us know

Re: Quick Start on S400?

hi RiCu

I don't think there is a version for Windows 8.

But based on this thread

http://download.lenovo.com/lenovo/content/windows8/upgrade/ideapad/index_en.html

Lenovo Quick Start may have a possibility to be carried on to Windows 8

You can try downloading the one for Windows 7 I provided.

You can just uninstall it under control panel -> Programs and Features. in case it did not work

Let us know if it worked Smiley Wink

Hope this helps

Cheers!!
