RAM upgrading Ideapad U430: Battery Removal

Hi all,

I've had a discussion about this with another user of the forum, who told me he wasn't sure how to unplug the battery inside his U430, so he just drained it by using the laptop, then pressed the power button a few times to discharge capacitors, and then proceeded to change the RAM module without any problem.

I wonder if there's any Lenovo rep who can say if this is an OK procedure and if not can give detailed instructions on how to unplug the battery. From the pictures shown here (http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Lenovo-IdeaPad-U430-Touch-Ultrabook.100623.0.html) I see that the battery is fixed with screws, but I figure it wouldn't be necessary to remove them in order to just unplug it for a moment?

Any help would be appreciated!

Re: RAM upgrading Ideapad U430: Battery Removal

hi BranMakMorn,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Try checking this Maintenance Manual (Page36)

http://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles_pub/ideapad_u330pu330touchu430pu430touch_hmm.pdf

For me I think the procedure you mentioned draining the power from the battery is ok, Just make sure you wear an ESD Strap when you replace the RAM

Hope this helps

Cheers!

That's perfect, thanks a lot. The manual does indeed suggest to disconnect the battery first, and it's easily done with a little connector, without necessarily removing the screws holding it in place.

Re: RAM upgrading Ideapad U430: Battery Removal

Dear Lenovo Support,

I want to upgrade the RAM for my "Lenovo IdeaPad U430 Touch", currently with 4 Gb.

Could you please let me know what is the exact description of the RAM memory chip of 8Gb which I should purchase?

Kind regards

Re: RAM upgrading Ideapad U430: Battery Removal

You can muddle through the manual and give Lenovo more clicks to give them more sales or you can just pull the cord towards the battery straight out. Not up.

In a world of fake news and click bait articles it would be a breath of fresh air to not have to jump through more hoops when we are going to a manufacturer we have already paid for an item. You already made your money off us on this product! Why waste a customers time and aggravate them with ANY Hoops to jump through when youve already profited?!?!?!. Just answer the questions!

Re: RAM upgrading Ideapad U430: Battery Removal

Instead of supplying links that get you more clicks to sell more things.... maybe think about the customer. Answer the questions without a link so they are always available. Its 2017 and some of these links are already not realting to the item in question. Its not a service you are really offering for the customers if the links pay you money and they dont help anyone but you. FAIL

Re: RAM upgrading Ideapad U430: Battery Removal

LOOOONG ANSWER - Read the manual. Page 36

SHORT ANSWER - Pull connector toward the battery. Do not pull up on it but out.

You saved 5 minutes atleast if you chose the short answer. Enjoy the extra minutes NOT helping Lenovo by NOT clicking on their links... to NOT help them get higher on google and NOT sell more. Fixing a problem that should have never happened in the first place is not a justification for ME to help a company sell more crap so their customers have more issues with their products. LOL.  Your choice. Smiley Happy
