Question

I just bought a Ideapad S10-3, am using Windows XP,  and am having trouble connecting to my router either wirelessly or through wired ethernet.  When I plugged the cable in, there is no connection though the cable worked well on other laptop just now.   I checked the Local Area Connection  Status and it showed a subnet Mask:   255.255.0.0

Answer

First, ensure that the wireless switch is set to on - this should be on the right side of the screen near the hinge key.  Next, be sure that router has no firewall or filtered mac adress switched on ...

Try to reset router and plug  in wired LAN ...

Expected values for Subnet Mask:   should be 255.255.255.0

Lastly, perhaps another communication device has been selected.  Try turning off the modem.
