AndrewDC,

I am not sure if you are allowed to disclose information regarding the beta BIOS, but could you check the ACPI thermal zone temperature (Temp1 of SpeedFan4.37)? Unlike previous public BIOS's, does it have a +10C offset from the "calibrated" CPU core temperature?

I confirm -over "+10" offset. (Core0=45, Temp1=57).

AndrewDC,

Thanks for the info. I believe that it is a bug in the beta BIOS. Anyway, as the fan is controlled by the ACPI thermal zone temperature, it means that the fan was really meant to start spinning at 55C.

AndrewDC, Slash,

While we can continue to improve, I think you might agree that the version that you tested would represent a positive step foward in operation over version 56, and the backlight condition (on when lid closed) is resolved.

All,

I'm told the target for the next production version on the web is sometime tomorrow.  (This is a target, but would ask for members patience +/- a day)

Once on the web, and following general consensus we will continue to follow up with equivalent version for S10e.

Thanks again for everyone's patience and assistance in working this out.

Best regards,

Mark

Hmmm, i hope the S10e isnt too far behind (not more than a day or two) as there are a LOT of us UK users running S10e's (S10 isnt sold by lenovo over here on their website or in shops) with this fan problem.

Any ETA on the S10e version? Latest update on the Lenovo drivers download page is from December 2008.

"Once on the web, and following general consensus we will continue to follow up with equivalent version for S10e."

...basically states that there vill be an S10e version some time in the future after the S10 version is on the net.

By the way, did anyone test removing the grill (plastic thing with 0,5mm round holes) between the fan and the outer fan protection bars?
