Re: [S10/S10e Fan Problems Collecting Info for Lenovo] S10 fan runs too fast, too often, too loud

@daj

Good for you that you don't have any problems with fan noise. This thread, however, is for those who do. Telling people they have over sensitive ears isn't helping the issue. You don't see us that have fan noise problems calling people without that problem for deaf - do you?

Re: [S10/S10e Fan Problems Collecting Info for Lenovo] S10 fan runs too fast, too often, too loud

I recommended a s10 to my co-worker after reading the 59 patch coming out. I tested it, it soften mine, and solved eratic fan but still there was the fan noise.

I tested his when it came, didn't check bios version but it was still a little noisy but less than mine, and the eratic behavior was still there but not as bad.

so DJ1andDT2 the new s10's might still have the fan problem. but still probably lots of variance in the batches.

my co-worker didn't think it was all that bad. to some degree might depend on the person, or he was justifying his purchase. I might be too spoilt cause my thinkpad x31 was silent as an assassin, x32 after fan control. silent.

Mark thanks for the hard work, you tried its all that matters. THANK YOU!

Carsten thanks for the reverse engineering.

dressler thanks for the fan control app.

dresslerc, glad you're back.

S10FanControl seems to run differently for me on AC and battery power.  I have it set at 75/80/85, on AC everything's perfect, on battery it's better than nothing but fan kicks on at much lower temps.  5 minutes ago the fan kicked on at 53C, just now as I'm typing this it it kicked on at 58C, ran both times for 15sec.  S10e/66.

Hey!

I've started a new thread called "Fan Control for the S10(e)". http://forums.lenovo.com/lnv/board/message?board.id=IdeaPad_Netbook&thread.id=3061

Keeping an overview gets quite hard and perhaps we should continue discussing any fan control things right there.

Carsten

You have mentioned a very important point when trying to solve the fan noise problem. It appears to be mainly centered around the S10e. I have 4-S10 with no fan noise problem and 1-S10e that I borrowed that sounds like a buzz saw. Having borrowed the S10e for a time I can sure understand the strong concern that the S10e users have. I opened up the S10e and saw that there was no interference between the fan blade and any object. I am going to try and swap the fan assemblys between a S10 and a S10e and see if the properties of the two assemblys are different.

Frankjg,

Interesting...the hardware is very similar on the systems (virtually identical) so I think your fan swap is good to try to isolate the problem.  If the S10 fan is quiet when installed in the "e", I would conclude you have a bad fan and should contact service.

All,

Some may notice the 58 version of BIOS is off the web and there is no BIOS available for download today.  This was removed because we have another version of the S10 shipping which includes features not supported by 58 and if a customer accidentally applied it, these features would be disabled.

An updated BIOS with support for all models should be uploaded to the site shortly - estimate is about a week.

Best regards,

Mark

Mark,

Can you specify what the updates will address in this new BIOS?
