S10 install programs-how to and size limits

2008-10-24, 1:10 AM

Just received my new S10 and can't figure out how to install Ms Office 2003 without a cd drive. Also, can I install only Word and Outlook? With such a small hard drive (I was unable to purchase a larger size) what are limitations if I have lots of files and contacts? Will I have problems synching my PDA? Thanks.

Just copy contents of your Office 2003 CD to some flash drive and then run installation from this flash on our S10.

Sure you can install only Word and Excel - just read carefully what's written on screen during installation - there will be a button called "Custom" that will allow you to choose what to install and what not to install.

Why bother with Word and Excel on your S10?

2008-10-28, 6:21 AM

I am merely curious MsLiberty, Why bother with Word and Excel on your S10?  I loaded OpenOffice for free from the Internet.  www.openoffice.org

It is compatible with Word (and I think it takes less space on the HD)  [One of these days I will have to send the Open office people a check]

Actually, I installed the whole PortableApps suite to the D: drive on my S10, so that I have a variety of programs including a virus detection program, running off of that.

Hi, I really wanted Outlook so I can synch my Axim device and keep a backup of my addressbook and calendar. The version I have allows for 3 computer installations of Office 2003.

I looked briefly at Open Office, and will consider it again because of the space limitations.

Always more to learn. I appreciate all the advice in the forum.
