S340-15API RAM Upgrade - 2400MHz or 2666MHz?

2020-06-09, 16:32 PM

Hi! I'm looking to upgrade model 81NC00GGMJ by adding on a 4GB stick.

Based on how sellers in my region have advertised this model, could you please confirm if this model has a 4GB memory soldered to system board + a DDR4 SO-DIMM 2400MHz socket? For some reason the compatible memory section in parts lookup states 2666MHz.

Also, is there benefit to using OEM Samsung or Hynix modules compared to the more common brand names out there?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum.

Your system uses 2400MHz DDR4 SO-DIMM. You can install a 2666MHz module but it won't run any faster. It's possible Lenovo's parts lookup shows only 2666MHz RAM in order to minimize the number of different parts they have to stock.

There is 4GB memory soldered to system board. That can't be upgraded. There is also a SO-DIMM socket into which you can install a 4GB, 8GB or 16GB module.

There's no benefit to using OEM RAM vs. reputable consumer brands like Crucial or Kingston et al.

@hausman Thanks a bunch for clarifying, much appreciated. I'll go ahead with a 2400 MHz stick then since there's no inherent performance gain.
