SSD not recognized in new S510p

2013-11-28, 2:48 AM

I just got a Ideapad S510p.  I also bought a Intel 530 series SSD to put in it.  The S510p works fine with the included hardware.  The ssd worked fine in another computer I used to update its firmware and format it.  When I put the SSD in the computer and attempt to install Windows, nothing happens.  The first time I booted with the SSD, it displayed a blank screen and did not show any life at all.  I could not even enter the BIOS screen.

I had to remove the SSD to even enter the BIOS setting screen.  I changed the BIOS settings one at a time to attempt to get it to do something when the SSD was installed...  The only way I could get the Windows install disk to boot was to change the BIOS to Legacy Boot (instead of UEFI), and IDE (instead of AHCI).  The new problem is that even though the Win install disk will boot, even though the SSD is shown in the BIOS, Windows installation cannot see that the SSD is installed.  I tried a Ubuntu live CD and the Intel Solid State Toolbox CD, neither of them could see the drive either.

Soo..  I have a computer which seems to work, a SSD which seems to work, but when the two are combined nothing happens.  It either won't boot, or it will boot but won't see the drive.  I have tried every combination of BIOS settings I can think of to no avail.  I am at a complete loss of what to do next.  Suggestions?

Alas, I could not ever get it figured out.  I ended up returning the computer for a refund. Thankfully the employee who helped me return it was a tech, and understood my frustration.

The best I can guess is that there is either a firmware error in the SSD or there's a BIOS error in the computer.  Who knows, there might be an error in both.  It just wasn't usable no matter what.

Hello everyone,
I have the same problem with a Crucial M550 120GB and a 240GB Crucial M500.
The pc is freezed for a few minutes. Then I can get into the bios and the ssd is recognized. Then I start with the installation of Windows 8.1 that does not see the disk.
Can anyone help me? It seems to be a problem with the bios.
Crucial drives are "guaranteed" compatible with Ideapad S510P and they work fine on other notebooks.
I called lenovo support that told me not to be able to help me

Lenovo is silent on the issue!!!
You have solved the problem?

Hello,

I try to contact customer service via the crucial forum and no reply ...

We are not alone in having problems with crucial:

someone else: http://communaute.crucial.com/t5/Disques-SSD/Ordinateur-ne-s-allume-plus-apr%C3%A8s-installation-d-un-SSD-crucial/td-p/9757

Do you pay off your SSD, I do not see any other solution.

Hello Vincent,
you have tried to leave the PC on hold for 5 minutes or more?
After this time my pc goes into bios and the disk is recognized.
But .. unfortunately there is a but .. when I install Windows 8.1 does not recognize it ..
I do not think it's a problem of the discs crucial because I had a chance to try it on other PCs and they work very well.
I will also try to write to Crucial.
