Re: Scrolling on touched not working. U410 with Windows 8.

2013-01-25, 0:29 AM

Hi guys,

exact same issue is happening to me as well.

But I don't think that is hardware or driver issue. Because try it. if you tap touchpad with one finger it will do left click on mouse but if you tap touchpad with 2 fingers it do right click mouse button. It shows me that hardware recognizing multitouch and hardware and driver SHOULD be ok. But I thing that is Lenovo's mess and I think that support "intelingent" touchpad software is bad.

Please check on your U410's guys.

Also I have found in device manager that I have problem with USB-iF xHCI USB host controller, some driver issue but I  have no idea if that is related to touchpad isue.

Lenovo shoul give us some suggestion, but something smarter than  "Use your one key recovery button" :)

I can confirm this for Office 2007. It is even enough to leave the office product running but switch to a browser for example. Synaptics driver immediately crashes. I can reproduce this everytime. THe only thing that helps yet is opening mouse-settings in windows control panel, selecting "no" when asked to uninstall driver and then closing the mouse settings.

I did a short research and found out that this is also happening on yoga (see http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-IdeaTab-Slate-Tablets/Yoga-13-Office-2010-touchpad-issues-after-open-any-document/td-p/905701/highlight/true/page/2 ) and that there is also a report on MS (see http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2010-customize/wordexcelpowerpoint-2010-killing-synaptics/3a7a31c4-3758-4d10-9fb7-570462cf2d7d ). However, noone has a solution other than restarting the driver.

I am having the same problem too. The touchpad scroll and swipe usually stops working after I open an Office document. Each time, I have to go to the mouse settings in the control panel to re-enable it. Today though, the touchpad stopped working, the cursor didn't move anywhere but is able to click on something in that one spot. The touchscreen then came back after I logged out and logged back in. SO ANNOYING!!

I have only had this machine for a week so far. Hopefully Lenovo or synaptics can provide a fix for this soon.

Hi all,

thanks for posting. I was reading through this thread and I'd like to bring this up with our teams to check. But before doing so I'd like to check on a few things.

1) Does happen when connected to AC or without?

2) When running other applications other than Office does it still occur?

3) Was there any particular software that you had installed prior to this happening?

4) Any changes in CPU usage or heat increase when this happens?

I'm sorry for the list of question but would like to narrow down the issue.

Please do let me know.

Regards

I am having the same issue with the U410. Here are some answers to your questions -

1) the touchpad functions will malfunction on both battery power and connected to AC

2) for me, my touchpad function will work completely fine for hours UNTIL I open MS Office. Office seems to be the only program that makes this problem occur. I typically run Spotify, iTunes, and Google Chrome.. none of which cause the touchpad to crash

3) the touchpad was not malfunctioning until installing MS Office. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling both the touchpad driver and MS Office, but the problem still exists

4) I have not noticed any significant changes to CPU usage or heat increase when the touchpad malfunctions

I hope this helps

HI debo3819,

Thanks for replying. This helps a great bunch. From what you posted here this does seems interesting as it only affects when you launch MS office. I might need to a little bot of time to confirm this. I was wondering which MS office versio/n are you currently running? is it the MSO2010 or the MSO2007?

Do let me know.

I am having the same issues on my U510 IdeaPad (only owned for 2 weeks). I have not troubleshooted the issue extensively but did notice that the multi-touch gestures including 2 finger scroll and swiping for the charms bar stop working after opening MS Excel 2010. After reading some comments from others, I restarted my computer to start with multi-touch gestures on the touchpad. Everything worked fine in chrome and the start screen. I then opened MS Excel 2010. Two-finger scroll initially worked in Excel, which I had open for maybe 10 seconds. Upon closing Excel, all multi-touch functionality from the keypad stopped and only basic mouse movements and right/left mouse clicks work. Again, I have just started to troubleshoot this issue.

Hi waternet15,

Thanks for posting. I'm surprised that this is also affecting the U510. I was just wondering whcih type of touchpad was your U510 fitted with? Was the ELANTECH or the Synaptics?

@ all I'd also like to get your input on which type of touchpad was the U410 fitted with, the ELANTECH or Synaptics.

Do let me know.

Re: Scrolling on touchpad not working. U410 with Windows 8.

Hi,

I'm another to fall foul of the touchpad not working.  And this is my second Lenovo u410 (i3 processor, 4G RAM, 500G HD version) with the same problem - the first I returned.  The problem has started almost immediately after installing MS Office on this computer.  The problem details are the same in previous posts - i.e. temperamental two finger scrolling... suddenly stops working, then error messages reading 'unable to connect to synaptics drivers'.  Answers (in capitals) to your questions are as follows:

1) Does happen when connected to AC or without? BOTH

2) When running other applications other than Office does it still occur? NO - THIS ONLY SEEMS TO HAPPEN DURING/AFTER USING A MS OFFICE APPLICATION

3) Was there any particular software that you had installed prior to this happening? I HAVE JUST INSTALLED MS OFFICE; NOTHING ELSE

4) Any changes in CPU usage or heat increase when this happens? NO

It's good that finally something seems to be happening with this.  I must say though that I am astonished Lenovo have not sought to do something earlier.  And surprised, given the number of complaints that Lenovo seems not to have been aware of this themselves.  Surely these laptops go through systematic testing prior to being marketed which would have tested the hardware with various software.. including MS Office.  Very suspicious.  Anyway, let's hope something will be done about this... and very soon.  It's incredibly irritating...

Thanks...

Just received my new U410 yesterday. Opened the box, installed MS Office 2013, and am having the same issue as everyone else. Literally nothing else was installed except Lenovo bloatware.
