Should I cancel my U410

2012-07-16, 21:30 PM

I ordered my U410 ultrabook on July 1st, it is now July 16 and the estimated shipping date is the 26th of July. Besides that infuriating wait time to get my machine before school starts, I am finding A LOT of posts about issues on the U410, mainly short battery life that lasts 2 hours and horrible wi-fi connection. I am honestly debating whether or not to cancel this U410 and just never bother with Lenovo. This has been my first purchase with Lenovo and I am not sure if I want to make this my last or not.

Should I cancel my order or not?

If I could go back, knowing what i know now, I would not have ordered my computer from them. If you ever have any problems with it, you will wish you had. While the product seems good, their customer service and customer relations are utterly atrocious. They are full of half truths and difficulties.

After my experience with Lenovo customer service I would highly recommend it. Lenovo doesn't seem to care about their customers once they have their credit card number.  Hope you do not have to go through the same headache that I did.

if theres one thing im regretting about my u410, its that i shouldve cancelled my order and got a thinkpad instead, lenovo doesnt seem too interested in your problems unless you have a thinkpad i find, as far as wifi my connection is good and just as fast as my other computer, but after trying to install linux i have the problem of not being able to boot into my bios anymore.

I have cancelled my order due to extremely long delays in shipping and bad customer service and consumer experience

It appears that customer service is poorly run from all the complaints.  It doesn't appear that anyone cares to correct it.  I suspect they make most of their money from corporations that place large orders.  I worked for a USA company that has 52,000 employees and we stopped buying from them.  Too many problems with machines and getting warranty work done.

Last month I ordered a Y580 thinking it was a great value.  Silly me.  Got 5 different ship dates.  Your account rep can't do anything for you and they are reluctant to tell you what the delay is.  If they would be open and honest (I know its a hard concept) and work to improve their processes they would do more business and people would come back to buy again and again.

Oh yes, I cancelled my order and bought my wife a Dell.  It shipped the same day.  Free two-day shipping.

Re: Should I cancel my U410

I'm actually getting my replacement U410 today. In the week since I called in the RMA for the low battery life, it has seemed to wear itself in, and I'm getting 5.5 hours out of a charge. I can live with that.

HOWEVER, what I chimed in to say was that I bought mine through Costco.com. They have a 3-month no-questions return policy on computers, and they also add a year to your warranty for free (what lenovo charges you $60 or something for).

On top of that, they had the model with 750gb HDD, 32gb SSD, and ivy bridge I5 for cheaper than lenovo's site, even after shipping and tax.

When I called costco about the battery thing, they didn't even ask any more questions, they just immediately said "we'll send you out a new one".

Thanks to the advice on here and having the same frustrations with lenovo's own customer service. Really do I need to hold for 1.5 hours without getting a live person.

Bought a better model of the u410 from Costco for the same price.

Costco says I should have it delivered in 1-2 days. Just waiting on the tracking number.

Plus Costco's customer service is far superior. Extends the warranty for an additional year. And if I have any problems with the WiFi they'll send me a new one.

Noone should have to deal with the lack of communication and concern by ordering from lenovo direct.

Cajenn --

Just checked Costco's website...looks like I may be getting it from them. Good thing I'm a costco member. Currently on hold with Lenovo. One of two things are going to happen: they are going to give me a tracking number or I am going to cancel my purchase. Plain and simple.

I would much rather give Costco my business anyways. Do you know if they will replace the Lenovo if it something is wrong with it, or do we still have to go through Lenovo even if we buy it from Costco?

I just thought I would thank you guys for the Costco advice. I had a lot of shipping problems and delays with Lenovo and, after reading these posts, found the U410 there with a larger harddrive, additional warranty year, free tech support, and a free year of Kaspersky. It's the same price as Lenovo website, so I canceled my order there. The unit should ship within 1-2 days from Costco! While I don't have the computer yet, I urge others to go to Costco's website (for the U410 ultrabook anyway)....

If I have problems with the unit - e.g. the wireless card - I feel better going through Costco for support (90 day return policy!)...

If it's helpful for anybody I can report back about shipping or other issues when it arrives...
