U D drive full

I've had my U400 for about a week and the D drive is full and my comp freezes occasionally and I think this is the problem. I know next to nothing about the inner workings of computers and I have not a clue as to how to fix this. The D drive is the smaller one of the two and I understand that this is for the system backup, but it shouldn't be this full and giving me alerts constantly. Did I set up the backup incorrectly or how do I remedy this issue?

Thanks!

Re: U D drive full

The sound will also stop randomly and the computer wont open programs so I have to restart. It is really frustrating!

Re: U D drive full

Normally a full Drive (btw: What does "full" mean? Are we talking like 5 Megabytes or several hundreds left?) doesn't compromise a PC, except for the primary Partition (in Case of windows this is almost always C: ), and this also only due to programs need to write stuff on that drive (very little, like logging etc.).
Your problem could instead be related to a Virus - Do you have any security software (McAfee, Norton, Security Essentials etc)?

Re: U D drive full

Hi,

i agree with the other poster that it is probably a malware infection.

The ESET online scanner i always recommend for a scan, is currently unavailable

you can scan with  http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free

Please make sure to update first before running a scan,

if anything is found please go to the malware forum for assistance.

İf you have any more questions please feel free to ask here

Good luck

Re: U D drive full

ESET site is working again

http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/

Please make sure to check mark all appropriate boxes,

disable your antivirus before the scan and re enable afterwards

note the results and if any malware is found report results in the Malware forum.

Let us know how you go.

Re: U D drive full

Yes, I ran the scan and it found 4 trojan files, I fixed them and my computer seems to be running a lot smoother. Thanks for the help!

Re: U D drive full

Evidently I spoke to soon. I am running Avast and when I turned it back on after running the scan, all the problems came back. Is there a suggested antivirus software I can use instead?

Re: U D drive full

It sounds like you might still have malware infecting your system (malware can be very persistant). MajorGeeks has an excellent step-by-step Malware Removal Guide that I would encourage you to take your computer through.
