Hi Lenovo Support Team,
i see there is not much response for helping me to identfy
my U160, wheter it is one of the units with broken turbo
boost or not.
I am sure Lenovo has indentified all broken U160.
The production date of my U160 03/09/10 is around
that time where the broken U160's did show up.
I am not going to test to find it out if it is broken or not
since I did buy a product which has to be ok without
If there will be no help to identify this U160 as a unit
without this hardware failure, i will just send it back
to my reseller.
And I will think twice before I will buy my next Lenovo.
Thank you for understanding

thank you for your good news. I did put in service the
new U160 i7-620 now. The CPU is working with a
core speed of 800Mhz (x6) default and while running
super pi between 2GHz (x15) and 2.13GHz(x16).
I think the Turbo Boost mode is working optimal.
Everything seems to work fine. The only thing what
I do not find optimal so far is the display fixation.
Display will move slightly when you touch the table.
The left bottom part of the case will warm up only
while running at maximum speed.
Thank you very much for your great support and
also the support of the whole Lenovo team.

i mean the fixation of the lid, the display itself is ok
and not flickering. The fixation is not strong enough
so that when you work the lid is seesaws sometimes
a little bit. Its a matter of construction. And it is just
I have already OpenSuSE 11.4 installed, but I have
still some open issues with the Arrandale Integrated
Graphics Controller. Does not work in its native mode
(1366x768). Only in VGA compatible mode 1024x768.
(Intel i915 Driver).
Thats is not a Lenovo problem. But if you know
something what or someone who can help on this
matter I would be glad.
Note: With Linux Kernel 2.6.39 and kernel option
i915.lvds_use_ssc=0 native graphic mode works
perfect. Right touch pad button does clamb

I recently bought in USA, through ebay, a brand new i7-640UM based u160. It arrived to my country (Chile) a week ago. After a few days I started to think that the Turbo Boost isn't working properly. Thats because when I tested the system with the Intel Turbo Boost Monitor gadget, normally Turbo boost doesn't go above 1.46 Ghz.
When I run CPU-Z, without any benchmark, it shows that the Core Speed is 2128.9 MHz.
And when I start Super Pi benchmark the cpu decreases the speed. It shows 1800 MHz (app) when I execute the 16M test in Super Pi. At the same time the Turbo boost Monitor gadget shows 1,73 GHz
These outcomes are far of the 2,26 GHz (maximum clock rate of the cpu).
I wonder if you can help me with this problem.
I will send you a PM with the serial number, and other information.
Hoping you can help me

I think i've got the same problem. My U160 with i5-520um runs always at the not-impressing frequency 1.07GHz, no matter what programs i've runed. i've tried super PI and other programms, which has been mentioned a lot.
I am a student, in Germany. I've bought the Laptop from Amazon.de. Can you probably tell me, what I can do now about my PC, since i've ensured this problem?
P.s. my U160 was manufactured at 2010.09.08.
thanks a lot
