U410 Burnt motherboard

My Lenovo U410 suddenly shutdown on it's own and won't power back on. I opened the back and noticed a burnt spot. Anyone who could possibly know the cause? And if there's a fix (mobo replacement as last resort hopefully). Thanks in advance!

Re: U410 Burnt motherboard

Welcome to the Community Forums!

Appreciate that you've also shared us the picture. Normally, whenever this has been found in the motherboard, we replace them. since we could only repair the computers by replacing the part, not repairing the part. You could consult this to someone who is a specialist with circuit boards or IC, but there's guarantee that they'll be able to fix it. Best recommendation is to replace the motherboard. You could call our Customer Care number for your country in this link for repair options: https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/supportphonelist . Or visit or reach our Service Providers nearest you from our list in this link: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht118678 , simply filter it by the country or city.

Re: U410 Burnt motherboard

I see. Thanks for your response! I'm just worried that if I replace the board that it might just happen again since I don't know what caused the burn.

Re: U410 Burnt motherboard

It will be best to have a technician fully evaluate your laptop to ensure that everything will be properly diagnosed. Check out the list of the authorized service providers https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht118678 (filter by country or city/state/address) and locate the nearest one.

Re: U410 Burnt motherboard

It isn't a clear enough picture to be sure, but that looks like a blown Mosfet (power transistor).  There wouldn't be any other parts (other than the motherboard) involved.
