Re: U410 RAID failure - BSOD - Cannot boot

I've got a U410 Ideapad running in Windows 7 that hasn't been working for more than a month now. I shut it down one night and when I tried turning it on the next morning I had a BSOD. I took a picture of the stop code.

When I tried booting after this initial BSOD I got the following screen:

I cannot log onto Windows (or get past the screen above) so if any additional information is required it will need to be something I can access in BIOS.

I'm not sure if this is related, but since the issue started I've noticed a sort of clicking/scratching noise coming from inside the laptop itself.

I've got no idea how to solve this problem. My laptop is out of warranty and I'm really hoping this is something I can fix on my own.

Any suggestions?

Re: U410 RAID failure - BSOD - Cannot boot

hi CdnGinger,

Welcome to the Forums.

Can you try to boot into the BIOS and under the configuration tab, change the SATA Controller Mode to AHCI. When done, press F10 to save and exit BIOS and observe if the PC boots into Windows.

If the machine boots into Windows, I would check if one of the drive is faulty as clicking noise oftenly indicates an imminent failure on the hard drive. Try to download and install HD Tune and run an error scan on both the HDD/SSD and observe.

Let me know how it goes

Regards

Re: U410 RAID failure - BSOD - Cannot boot

Thanks for the response. I tried that previously with no sucess. It simply tries to boot from somewhere else then goes right back to the RAID screen. Still unable to get into Windows.

Now I seem to be having issues getting into the BIOS as well.

Re: U410 RAID failure - BSOD - Cannot boot

hi CdnGinger,

After changing the SATA Controller Mode to AHCI and pressing F10 to save and exit BIOS, can you try to continuously tap F8 to boot into Safe Mode. If you get in, restart the computer again to boot into Windows (normal mode) - this will reset the SATA controllers in Windows from RAID to AHCI.

If the system is still booting to the RAID configuration screen, it's possible that there's a problem with one of the drives. If the machine is already out of warranty, try to remove the Samsung mSATA SSD and retry the steps above. See this video disassembly guide as a reference (see FRU Videos)
