U530 Touch doesn't boot

Hi everybody,

I was quite happy with my Lenovo Ultrabook, at least until today.

Since this is not the first post about this topic, I want to assure you that I have googled for it at least for some time,

but haven't found any solutions / the exact same problem.

What happened:
I was gaming with a few friends, when suddenly the audio driver seemed to crash, meaning in couldn't hear anything, anywhere.
Thinking a quick restart could resolve this issue, I tried to simply reboot the laptop, but it somehow didn't start up.

So far the same as in many other posts, although:
When I pressed the power button for a few seconds to completely shut it off, and started it again,

I noticed, that the screen is somehow "flickering" on and off. It can barely be seen (imagine it turned off, and then the background LEDs turned on on the lowest brightness), with the duration of close to 1 second.
If I let the laptop run for awhile, at some point even the CPU fan starts running, although only for 1-2 minutes.
Besides, the Power LED is permanently on, but no background lighting for the keyboard (which was turned on before I shut down).
Also, I already tried opening the laptop, disconnecting the battery (and the round battery, whatever this one is called), disconnecting the SSD.
The one thing I couldn't find was the connection of the display (I'm not sure if it is only this greyish cable on the right side, because there are also some other cables running towards the display, which i couldn't disconnect).
After disconnecting, I did the CMOS-reset by pressing the power button for some 20 seconds, but to no avail.


EDIT: Ah, the thing i almost forgot: There is a really quiet noise coming from somewhere in the laptop (I couldn't fully locate the origin, but it seems to be somewhere in the vicinity of the small round battery), which makes some kind of "bzz" (although not the hey-i'm-frying-your-wires-bzz) sound. This has the same frequency as the monitor turning on and off again
Is this a hardware issue, or has somebody an idea what else I could do?

Welcome to the Community Forums. 


Since you already done power draining and reseating parts , would pressing the caps lock and nulock show equivalent LED indicator light coming on and off?


Would there be any faint display on screen by checking with a penlight? how about on an external monitor? 


Try removing the harddrive and ram and turning it back on . 

Is there any beep codes ? any buzzing electrical noise?

Remove the battery and unplug the adapter , Would there be any unusual burnt smell ? Any warm areas specially near the coin cell battery you described?


You can call in lenovo tech support as it may be a no post (power on self test) issue .

Hi Spidey,

thanks for looking into my issue.

Since I have sent in the laptop in the meantime (still got warranty on it), I'll just quickly go over what else I did for the sake of clarification (and future visitors):
I removed nearly every hardware part I dared (which only excluded the CPU, I'd say).
So removing HDD/RAM didn't help.

Although removing the RAM did silence the buzzing sound I heard, yet there was no burnt smell to any of the parts, not even a warmer spot.
Beep codes I heard none as well.

For the display: This I didn't check, yet, as I already mentioned, I saw a faint light turning on and off every second or so.

If I should get a message what exactly was wrong with it, I will gladly update it here.

So, now that I got my laptop back, I just wanted to give you a quick update:
According to the repair sheet, it was only a software error. Since there were no further descriptions of it, I can't tell you more...
