Unresponsive U160 0894

2012-08-16, 21:39 PM
My u160 completely stopped working today! It was unplugged and probably went to sleep before it died completely. When I picked it up to use it again it wouldn't turn on. I plugged it back in and it still didn't work. I then went to staples to borrow one of their chargers, it still didn't work. I then took out my battery and plugged it back in, it still didn't work. So I believe this means it's some kind of power connection issue or motherboard issues.

None of the status lights work when plugged in or when power button is pressed.

Where do I start? Do I try to get this fixed or will I need to buy a new laptop?

Hi,

so you left the laptop on battery power only,

which then shut down the laptop, when battery emptied.

Correct?

And the laptop does NOT recharge at all?

Have you tried  starting the laptop,on ac power only?

How old is the laptop?

Yes it was on battery charge and then died.

I tried to turn it on and nothing happened, usually it will try to boot and show battery critically low.

I plugged it in and the charging light did not go on and it still wouldn't start up.

Then, after reading the forum I took the battery out and tried to turn it on just having it plugged in and it still wouldn't start up.

So I essentially ruled out battery and charging cord I believe.

Any other tests I could run to check whether or not it's the motherboard?

From the above,it appears that you did this regularly before,

e.g let battery empy up completely.and have the laptop shut down as a result.

That's not the best thing for the battery, nor for the laptop

when it shuts down due to lack of power, when the battery dies,

loss of data can occur, and other problems as well for example,

if Windows is on auto update settings, having the laptop shut down during

install of updates, can mess up the system.

You don't say how old the laptop is,if you still have warranty.

,please contact Lenovo support in your area, and see what they advise.

it is two years old. It didn't happen that often I just remember seeing it before. I took it to office depot and they suggested that I should remover the ram and try then the same with the hard drive. Neither worked. I will assume it's a lost cause, unless someone can come up with something else.

My guess is that system damage occured,

during the last sudden shutdown.

İ only pointed out the facts to you earlier,

so that you avoid same,in the future.

Well since there is not even any light when you press

the power button,i think the best thing to do,would  be

giving it to a  shop for repair.

İ wouldn't say it's a lost cause, some parts may probably need to be replaced,

repairs need to be done, then  the laptop  should be good to use again

hopefully.

Good luck.

Hi wcipolli,

One last thing you could try and it's a long shot.

Take out the battery, unplug it and hold the power button down for 10 seconds.  Repeat that 5 times, then plug in just the ac adapter and see if it turns on.
