Re: What is Maximum RAM for S340-15IWL (Intel) platform?

One thing to notice after installing it: Powering on the laptop for the first time after installing the stick takes around 15 seconds to display the colorful Lenovo logo. At first I thought the RAM stick was incompatible since that 15 seconds felt like forever, but any restart/boot after that will go back to normal.

No worries, it's a normal behavior, when a new (for the device) memory module is installed. Device is simply checking the installed module. I saw this behavior also on different laptops.

The restart issue has been resolved: appeared to be an issue in the MP510's controller Phison E12 firmware. Now running E12.3 (not available from corsair yet..., but from Phision. See this forum https://forum.corsair.com/v3/showthread.php?t=188547&t=188547

Also used in some other SSD's.

Restart works flawlessly now and updated (very quick) without any issues.

Hi I got my new Lenovo S340-14IWL . It has 8GB of RAM and I ran crucial system wizard and it suggested me to use an extra 16Gb stick but the official Laptop documentation said (4+8)Gb max. Can I install a 16Gb stick with my existing one so that total it would make 20 GB? Or should I follow the official OEM and follow those? Can you please help me out. Will installing RAM more than the permittable limit damage the computer. Im just waiting for your answer. If 16 Gb works normally. I will buy and install ASAP. Thanks in advance!

Why did you need to add memory? Was something slow?

Hi, I'm planning to get the Lenovo S340. I understand that the 4GB RAM is soldered on the board, but what does that mean?

I plan to add one more stick of 16GB RAM, so do i need to remove the 4GB RAM (which is impossible) or is there an additional SODIMM slot for me to plug in the new RAM stick?

Appreciate your help in this. Thanks!

I would not trust Crucial to even wipe my rear end. Their scanner tool and recommendations are quite inaccurate. I have the s145-15IWL they claimed had 4GB soldered to the board. When I removed the cover, there is no soldered ram. I can see where it would be, if it were there, but nothing is there as far as soldered ram. The only memory I had was the 4GB which came with the system in a single stick that was in the so-dimm socket. I did like many others replace the 4GB with a 16GB and I can say it works, and it is plentiful. Even a fellow with Lenovo took the same picture I posted of my motherboard and drew a little arrow to what he said was the ram I could replace. The arrow was pointing to the would be soldered on ram, if it was there at all. From my research, theoretically you could install 32GB stick in the so-dimm socket so long as it's the same DDR4, DDR3, whichever you need and it should work, but will only be usable up to what the motherboard will support. So if you install the 32GB and it only supports 16, then it will only register as 16GB, not the full 32. Even people at Crucial kept responding to my email questions, one of them saying the ram is there soldered to the board even "if you can't see it, its there". Why would I trust a place like that to sell me something for my computer?

I installed a 16G module from Kingston (kvr24S17D8/16) in my S145-15IWL, it worked (after 15 seconds boot mentioned before) - I saw a System Win10 app with 19.9GB, but then I had BSOD. After reboot - a new one, and one more. Strange that all them were different - first was "kernel security check failure", second I dont remember and third was "hypervisor error".

I'll have to try Crucial module now, despite the allegations of invisible RAM above :)

This is to correct BLDUNN's statement about there being no SODIMM slot, it is there, in fact it is placed on the side opposite of the removable that you can see.
