Which memory type does my S10-3s use?

2011-03-12, 18:39 PM

I just got a S10-3s and so far I'm pretty happy with it. I have had one very bad experience though, and I'm trying to avoid a repetition. I wanted to upgrade the memory to a 2GB block and so I bought a block when I purchased the netbook - the store clerk had a look at the computer specs and gave me a 200 pin SODIMM block.

After arriving home, I then almost trashed my new laptop because of the utterly ridiculous case design (sack the responsible person). Only to find that the 200-pin SODIMM does NOT in any way or form fit into the laptop. From what I can tell, what's needed is a 204-pin block.

However, when I try googling for appropriate memory blocks while comparing against system hardware info, I fail to fnd anything of use. Hardware output tells me I'm using a SODIMM 667 MHz block. When I look for SODIMM 667 MHz blocks with 204 pins, I get nothing - because 204 pins are for DDR3 and that comes at 1066 MHz and above. So which works for the S10-3s? I need to go and get my new mem-block exchanged for something proper, and I really want to avoid having to open my netbook more times than I need to (seeing as it's Lenovo apparently is trying to top Apple in poor case design).

Any pointers appreciated

Use this one: elixir 2GB DDR3 204 pins. It uses DDR3 RAMs. It works without updating bios

Re: Which memory type does my S10-3s use?

I have a S-10 3s with a N475 processor

1)Does it support DDR3

2)667 or 1333 Mhz . If 1333, will it always clock down to 667 Mhz. ? If so what is the use of getting 1333 ?

3)Do I have to buy my RAM from the above list only?  Or can I go to my comp hardware store and ask for any laptop DDR3 / DDR2 RAM stick ?

Hi,

your S10-3s with Intel Atom N475 CPU , supports S0-Dimm DDR3 only...

Intel Atom N455 &  N475 uses memory slot for fitting S0-DDR3  memory 204 pins notch more in mid to one side

259i5F8FB5C9AF382B9F

the above list is that have been found to work well.  (Lenovo recommends the use of official Lenovo optional memory to ensure compatibilty)

If your S10-3s runs well after upgrade with memory .. it isnt not necessary to update BIOS for S10-3s , otherwise if you got a black screen, after upgrade ... prefer to update, to latest BIOS before upgrade.

Thanks,

I was editing my post while u replied

So does it support 1333 Mhz ? Or should I get 667 as 1333 would clock down to 667 Mhz anyways?

Re: Which memory type does my S10-3s use?

So 667 Mhz is the max supported speed with DDR3 in the S10-3s?

Also,

Why don't brands like Corsair / Kingston figure in that list?

I mean aren't they superior to Elixir.. etc ?

Can someone have a look at this : http://www.corsair.com/memory/standard-dimms-and-sodimms/sodimm/cm3x2gsd1066.html

and verify it's compatible ?

Hi again,

in case of use other memory than preferred

as i say before .prefer to update BIOS .. that fixed memory compatibility issue ...

Recommended BIOS Update your S10-3s  BIOS 30  LM30_0224.exe

Important: Reboot your machine prior to bios update

Note: Please press F2 to access bios, then press F9 and load default settings in order to get machine works properly after new bios update.  Lenovo cannot guarantee compatibilty with all memory manufacturers and modules.

I use exclusively  Corsair memory  in all my Ideapad / Thinkpad , never had a problem.

Thanks a lot for your help !

I will do the BIOS update before adding the Corsair stick.

Does it make any sense at all to buy RAM faster than 667 Mhz for the S10-3s ?

What is the use of getting 1333 if it is always going to run at 667 Mhz?
