Wireless Adapter Not Detected on U31-70, Win10

Hi there,

I have a 1 year old Lenovo U31-70 (80M5) with Windows 10, that came with a Qualcomm Atheros QCA61x4 wifi network adapter that suddenly stopped being recognized. Already downloaded the drivers from Lenovo Support. When trying to install them a "No appropriate device connected" message pops-up. I've been waiting for two days for it to come back, but so far, nothing.

It happened after the system entering sleep mode. I red that, in order to save battery, system can shut the adapter off. I would like to revert that, going through the device manager procedure, but i cannot, since i don't see the adapter under Network adapters on Device Manager. It's just gone!

Went through BIOS configuration, and the adpater is enabled.

Any help is much appreciated,

Thanks

Re: Wireless Adapter Not Detected on U31-70, Win10

Hi there, Francisco  –

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

The No appropriate driver to be installed means that you most likely installing a driver for a different camera device (for eg. You're installing an Intel Wi-Fi driver for a Broadcom card).

To find out the correct diver for your device, can you try to follow this guide on how to identify the camera manufacturer (or post the hardware ID here).

Update us how it goes.

Regards,

Thanks for the reply,

I've already bumped into that manual. I went to the lenovo support and downloaded the driver from there. I'm installing a Qualcomm Atheros driver for a Qualcomm Atheros card, but the card is not detected.

Try to re-seat the wifi adaptor at once to see if issue persist or not.

Go through this HMM for better hardware understanding.

Re: Wireless Adapter Not Detected on U31-70, Win10

Hi,

I extracted the adapter and switched it with an Intel one from a Thinkpad T450. The Thinkpad recognized the adapter, downloaded drivers and everything was working perfectly on that side, therefore it was not an adapter issue. On the U31-70, i pluged the intel adapter and to my surprise it was recognized, but failed to load the drivers, stating something like unsupported adapter. Re-seated the Atheros adapter on the Ideapad U31-70 and again, nothing happens. No wireless adapter under Network adapters.

Any other ideas?

Thanks

Re: Wireless Adapter Not Detected on U31-70, Win10

Ensure the following:-

  1. The physical wireless switch on the front is set to ON.
  2. The wireless is turned on via Fn-F5.

Is it even being recognized in Device Manager? Do you see any yellow thingies in there?

Also, Check bios. See to it that wifi is enabled.

Hello again.

I've tryed fn+F5 (although i don't know if it works for U31-70) but nothing happened. Went to BIOS, and it is enabled. Still nothing under Device Manager > Network adapters. Not recognized!

Thanks for your time.

Re: Wireless Adapter Not Detected on U31-70, Win10

If all these procedures doesn't work, try to update the driver from the Lenovo/Nvidia Website and observe. Last resort would be backing up your files and doing a factory reset to isolate if it's an OS issue.

Re: Wireless Adapter Not Detected on U31-70, Win10

Same problem for me. I have also changed the wireless adapter but nothing seems to be working.

I have reinstalled the Windows 10 and afterwards I could connect to the Wifi for a few hours, then the same problem occured and the laptop is unable to detect the wireless adapter since then (internet works perfectly via ethernet cable).

Lenovo support seems not to care about the problem even though it affects more users. They only copy the usual useless manuals and they keep recommending to update the drivers...

Re: Wireless Adapter Not Detected on U31-70, Win10

I have the same problem, although I would like to add that when using a TP-LINK USB Wi-Fi adapter, it is recognized in the Device Manager as if it was the internal Atheros AR9271 adapter.
