Re: ideapad s10e xp pro install

Hi  welcome to lenovo community...

Prepare before: download all drivers listed....later...

in short ... u need a XP SP3 CD that will be copied to harddrive...

be sure that XP (Home or Prof) includes ServicePack 3 !
its most important because  (without SP3 you got problems with WLAN , S-ATA & HDA Sound) ...

...did you integrate the Intel storage matrix driver...?

This package installs the Storage driver to enable the following SATA Storage Controller on the system board:
- Intel 82801GBM SATA AHCI Controller
- Intel 82801HEM/HBM SATA AHCI Controller
- Intel ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller

download & uncompress  . ... than integrate on cd via n-lite you need this for sata...

get Intel Storage Matrix Driver here or this one Intel Storage Matrix Driver both works...

..next you need a Tool to make USB Drive bootable

Storage Formatter

create with help due WinSetupToUsb that prepares a minimum ..1 GB Flashdrive bootable XP SP3

WinSetupUSB found here

Be sure that your machine BIOS is prepared to boot from USB HDD...
if not do this at start press F2 to go in BIOS
set Fn-F7 numpad on tab to Boot ...
with plus + (plus + left on right SHIFT key is active )
move USB via + and - so the result shown like this....
1: USB CD Drive
2: USB HDD
3: HDD WD ....
4....
boot your small machine with plugged flash ...

delete all partitions...(if XP preinstall will not delete all linux partitions use parted or partitionmagic before install XP)

create a minimum 15 GB partition ...install XP

if basic installation done..

go in device manager see which driver needed:

looks like that...

you have to install drivers in order
----------------------------------------------------------------
Hint : All Driver manual Install:
Start Windows XP and logon with administrative privileges.
Double-click the driver package to extract it to your hard drive.
Click Start, then click Run...
Specify "SETUP.EXE" with the full path name where you extracted
the package in step 2, and click OK.
Example: C:\DRIVERS\WIN\VIDEO\"this filename"\SETUP.EXE

hint: disable pinch in advanced touchpad driver settings...
if you want more cool 2 fingerscroll ...

and if machine comes with
Bluetooth driver
http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/54bm01ww.exe]

if installed (the BT Envirement)
...click on --my bluetooth icon-- that installs devices...

if all yellow points are vanished looks like that in devicemanager

if all done..... update your system via ms update ...

& dont forget install an antivir software...update this too newest virusdefinitions..

.

...install small programs instead of memory/process eating ones...

ie. Foxit-Reader instead of AdobeReader...

Re: ideapad s10e xp pro install

Hi, geron...

lucky if you have recovery disk inside... only a lately sold have a few... here in germany 99,99 % sold without ...

so i cant say how that works...heard about one or two. but they didnt use that...or tell that to public

hmm

one should be bootable.. one for recovery program and recover image data.. the other is the recover contained data...

Re: ideapad s10e xp pro install

I'm stuck! It seems like regardless of what I do, the windows install will not see the the hard drive unless I put the controller into compatible mode in the BIOS. Has anybody ever loaded an s10-2 w/ XP Pro? What drivers did you use? I have integrated storage drivers from lenovo's website for the s10-2 into the windows install, as well as the intel chipset drivers. I have tried every combonation I can think of, can somebody help?

Re: ideapad s10e xp pro install

I have an S12 Intel, I installed XP Pro from a CD, It seemed like so much trouble slipstreaming and making nlite discs so I tried the 'easy way'. An external dvd rom drive, Windows XP Pro cd, A usb floppy drive and disc with the sata drivers on it, service pack 3 on a usb stick.

Start the install, press F6 when it asks if you want to load external drivers (make sure the floppy is connected) , once windows loads it's own drivers it will search for your drivers on the floppy drive and give you a list to choose from, choose the first one. Windows will then see the sata drive and install ok (choose to wipe and clean install).

When windows finishes it's install run the service pack 3 installation from the usb stick and you should be able to see and install drivers for your other hardware,
