Re: s405/s400 screen brightness issue after downgrading to windows 7

It is pathetic that Lenovo researches the problem, observes the root cause, they even snap a photo of the issue, but then refuse to actually fix backwards compatibility with WINDOWS 7, the most popular desktop OS in the world.

FIX THE DRIVER! Release it as a beta unsupported driver.

<<There are 101 steps on brightness setting in Win8 OS, but it only has 16 steps for Win7>>

OK that is easily fixable.

And what is 'mini support'? Does that mean minimum support? Do you have a 'no support' category? that's what it should be in.

I orderd my S400 with FreeDOS. I have a Windows 7 Home Premium license and what to install it on the S400.

So do I get the same dark screen issues even when there was no Win 8 preinstalled?

Re: s405/s400 screen brightness issue after downgrading to windows 7

This is my two cents. I am done fighting with it. You would think it would be easy to modify the brightness scale via the driver, registry, or via its config file. I was unable to find any way to do this. Has anyone tried installing win7 via UEFI / GPT or has everyone just installed in legacy MBR mode?

how to make a UEFI usb boot disk http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/15458-uefi-bootable-usb-flash-drive-create-windows.html

I know my issue was with MBR, I Have not tryed UEFI/GPT as it just came to me after I reinstalled Win8.

I hope this gets fixed.

ps. their are software issues with win8 not found in win7. That is a crock of crap line they gave.

If its helpful to anyone... I had this same problem on Windows 8 and I fixed it by uninstalling/reinstalling the Intel video driver.

Any fix from lenovo? I've purchased 4 of them and they don't even provide rebuild disks for win8. They've issue a fix for Ubuntu but nothing for win7 (http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Linux-Discussion/Ideapad-S400-Brightness-Problem/td-p/1062173)   :smileymad:

Any idea if this is being updated or being ignored? I have just purchased this laptop and removed the horrible windows 8 installation only to find the same brightness issue.

Lenovo? is this being fixed or do I need to return the laptop??
