After a phone call to the UK support line its pretty obvious they don't want to help anyone. Its shocking customer service, truly shocking.

Does anybody at Lenovo even read these forums?? This is my first experience with the brand and I cannot believe how bad they treat paying customers. My partner and I are returning our s400s today after receiving no customer service at all.

From what I can work out, its OUR fault for wanting to use this laptop with a proper OS. Why are they so keen for us to use Windows 8? Its a terrible OS that is being ditched in its 1000s everyday. If i wanted tiles and gimmicks I would have ploughed my money into a tablet or an Mac.

I am done with this but for the sake of the 1000s out there who just want the hardware to work how it was meant to, release an update.

Re: s405/s400 screen brightness issue after downgrading to windows 7

I have this problem too with my Lenovo P400 Touch laptop. I downgraded from Windows 8 to Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.

My brightness is stuck at maximum, sometimes it will randomly go dim and I have to restart to get it to work again. Using brightness up/down I have to quickly do it in BIOS or during Windows 7 boot up before it loads the driver.

My post is here:

http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/user/viewprofilepage/user-id/268171

I think it's a joke that Lenovo is refusing to update the BIOS to resolve this. It even works in Ubuntu!!!

This is going to be my last Lenovo laptop, methinks. They even refuse to send me or let me order recovery media they want me to pay a crapton of money.

I have the same problem on my Lenovo S405, so i got back to windows 8. I found something on the backup i made of the drivers, a cmd file with some brightness values. I didn´t try it on windows 7 because i found it after i reinstall win 8. Have any of you try it?

I installed windows XP on one of mine and the brightness issue is fixed. I think Lenovo are being dictated to by Microsoft not to fully support windows 7 to force users to an OS that they have spunked a load of $$$$$ on.

How can I fix the problem with low screen brightness of IdeaPad S400u with Windows 7?
I'm using official drivers for Win 7 from lenovo site, but the brightness is still unsuitably low even on maximum settings.
Though the brightness is ok, when using Windows 8
