Hi Enfortel,

I succsssfully installed BIOS_S400u_6dcn96ww.

After upgrade the BIOS and installed Windows 7, it need to install Intel Video driver.

Then the brightness is fixed.

Thanks Much.

I only say the Lenovo Support is very poor.

Do u press the button of Nova Button (the edge of top left) to power on and enter bios ?

Nova Button

When the computer is off, press this button to start the Lenovo OneKey
Recovery system or the BIOS setup utility, or to enter the boot menu.

Well, you can try all combinations possible.. like F10, fn+F10, ESC, F11, F12, fn+F11, fn+F12, F9, Shft+F2... I have no problens after upgrade to enterr on bios.. but I made the process to upgrade in win7, not in win8..

You can try remove the battery and power chord for a fews minutes and try again..

I am using windows 8 to upgrade firmware.
It has no problem.

After you upgraded the BIOS, you have to check BOOT option.

Boot Mode: Legacy Support
Boot Priority: Legacy First

You can enter the BIOS ?

So I just updated to Windows 8.1 and the brightness problem is still a problem. Lenovo even went ahead and updated their drivers to 8.1 yet they can't even fix the brightness issue?

Well it looks like there was a bios update which I already had flashed before, but that only fixes the Windows 7 issue. Guess I may have to revert back to Windows 8 or something.

Update: I figured out what the problem was. I installed the latest Lenovo AMD drivers for windows 8.1 and that was what caused the brightness control to stop working. I reinstalled the Windows 8 one and its working again.

Wait, you mean you went back DOWN to Windows 8.0?

I have the same problem, I think S405 works ONLY with Windows 8.0 is that it? I just upgraded to 8.1 because wifi card was not behaving properly in 8.0 and nothing I tried was able to correct the issue, so It seemed like 8.1 was the only way to fix it.

Now the screen is fixed dim, cannot adjust brightness at all.

Please tell me if you were able to fix the brightness issue?

EDIT:

http://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles/avga139w81a.exe

This fixed the issue on 8.1
