s41-70 battery drain

2016-04-26, 16:22 PM

hi,

I Recently bought a new lenovo s41-70 laptop that came with windows 10.

It seems that the battery has a problem,. When the computer goes to sleep, the battery still drains. I charge it to 100% before going to sleep, and when i wake up, the battery is left with only 50%. Even when the computer is shutdown, the battery continues to drain.

In the control panel, in power options, it is configured to go to sleep when i close the lid and after 20 min of inactivity. fast startup is disabled.

I read that maybe the intel management engine interface might be the problem, it is now version 11.0.0.1181.

Just upgraded bios to version BDCN63WW from version BDCN61WW.

If anyone has an idea how to fix the problem please let me know.

Thanks

Hi Gilad,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Btw my S41-70 is set to USB charged during sleep or non-sleep.

I would suggest you to check if your "close lid" is set to sleep mode in Windows.

Please go to start control panel, and click on power option and click on Choose what closing the lid dose. In the third option (When I close the lid) check if it is selected sleep option on both On battery and Plugged in option. If not please change it to sleep option.

Also, the LED beside the power button would blink when your laptop goes into sleep mode.Check the power light to see if it's solid or blinking. If it stays solid your laptop isn't sleeping.

Let us know how you get on.

Regards,

Shashi

Thank you Shashi for the quick replay.

Unfortunately, updating the bios didn't help. My computer drained about 35% over night.

It goes to sleep, the light is blinking.

Any other Ideas?

Thanks again.

Hi Gilad,

Make sure that you don't have any external devices connected that might wake the computer up while it is sleeping like a wireless USB mouse for example.

Also,  enter into BIOS please go to Config tab and click on USB option and disable both “Always On USB” and “Always On USB Charge in OFF Mode”. Please click here to view the image of the USB setting in BIOS.

Let us know how you get on.

Regards,

Shashi

Re: s41-70 battery drain

I had a different bios setting regarding the USB which i switched to disable. Also, i removed all devices including a wireless mouse and a disk on key. Over night, the battery drained 15% so there was an improvement, but it seems that there is still a problem. Also, i need to check the changes in the next couple of days.

When we bought the laptops, we bought 2, and the second laptop doesn't have a problem with the battery draining.

I also checked the drivers beetween the 2, and most of them are the same version.

Any other idea?

Thanks again
