Lenovo's Intelligent Sensing Zero Touch Features No Longer Working - Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 Carbon

Hi. My laptop is Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 Carbon (14ACN06-82L0). It has the Lenovo's Intelligent Sensing Zero Touch features. When I first bought the laptop few months back, they worked but now, they are no longer working.

Here are the details of the issues:

  • Zero Touch Login - Windows Hello works, logging in via Face Recognition. But when the laptop goes to sleep, when I wave my hand or sit in front lie always, the laptop does not wake up from sleep.
  • Zero Touch Lock - When I get up, it should log out, used to. But now, nothing happens. It remains switched on until the 3 minutes sleep timer runs out due to no input and it sleeps.
  • Zero Touch Video - This never worked. I tried it out with one of the supported video players, VLC media player, but it never worked. But not the most important feature for me right now.

Here are the details of software you might need to know and please note that all of these software/devices are working properly as per device manager:

  • Windows 11 Pro 22H2 - Latest (Build 10.0.22621)
  • BIOS Firmware - Latest (H5CN40WW)
  • Lenovo Intelligent Sensing driver - Latest (1.0.6.11)
  • HID Sensor Collection V2 - Latest (10.0.22621.2506)
  • Integrated Camera & IR Camera - Latest (10.0.22000.20241)
  • Zero Touch driver - Later (1.0.4.21)

Below are some additional information:

  • ZeroTouchSMATool

ZeroTouchSMATool

  • Lenovo Vantage - Additional Settings - Intelligent Sensing - Zero Touch settings

 Zero Touch Settings

  • Power & Sleep settings

Power & Battery settings

Please note that the followings are already tried to rectify this issue:

  • I reformatted (reset) my laptop, it works for awhile, and then after few weeks, it does not anymore.
  • I reformatted (clean-installed/fresh install) my laptop for the second time, with Windows 11 ISO from Microsoft, it works for awhile and then after few weeks, it does not anymore.
    • Please note that each time I reformatted/clean installed, I made sure everything was up-to-date via Windows Update and Lenovo Vantage System Update.
  • I scoured through Lenovo Forums (Community Posts) for a solution, tried every suggestions given but not finding any to work.
  • I disabled Windows Hello, reenabled and reconfigured my facial recognition, as well as disable Lenovo Intelligent Sensing Zero Touch, restart and reenabling it. Nothing works.
  • I use Microsoft PowerToys which has an Awake feature enabled at the start of using this laptop when Zero Touch worked but uninstalling it also still does not work.
  • Changing my power mode to Balanced or Energy Efficient does not work.
  • I have uninstalled Lenovo Vantage app and Lenovo System Interface Foundation and reinstalled them after a restart, still does not work.

Can anyone help me out? I am pretty sure it's not the hardware because Windows Hello works, camera works, I can even see the probing red-infrared-light working when signing in the first time. It must be software related somehow but I cannot seem to detect what is causing it to fail.

Let me know if you guys need any additional information. I will keep on updating from time to time.

Thank you.

Regards,

Re:Lenovo's Intelligent Sensing Zero Touch Features No Longer Working - Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 Carbon

I encountered a similar issue. But it has since been resolved after a few days. The exact reason for this resolution remains elusive. I attempted to manually update my drivers, and all of them were already up to date. Most drivers indicated that they did not require reinstallation. However, the chipset driver wizard allowed for the reinstallation of the same version, and subsequently, the issue ceased to persist. The root cause of this phenomenon remains unclear.

Another observation I made was that each time the "zero-touch" process was disrupted, there was a program that kept the display active. Internet Download Manager is a pertinent example, as it would prevent the screen from turning off until a download was completed. Following the removal of Internet Download Manager, the issue persisted. Subsequently, after a few days, I reinstalled the chipset driver and performed a system restart, resulting in the issue being completely resolved. It appears that the chipset driver played a pivotal role in resolving this issue on two separate occasions.

Hi wangyanyan. I apologize for the late response.

I have reproduced the issue in two ways:

  1. Laptop unplugged, refer to ztf1004_log (unplugged)
    1. I opened traceview, and left the laptop untouched (no activity/movement) and away from the camera and IR sensor, and started the timer. Within 1 minute (way before the laptop's settings turn off display and sleep timers in 3 minutes), the screen dimmed and turned off, with the light at the power button on the right side blinking (indicating either it's on sleep or standby) Zero Touch Lock works, and moved into the IR sensor scan area and immediately the screen lit up and logged me in confirming Zero Touch Login works.
    2. Continued the process but this time, leaving the laptop after 3-minutes mark (to ensure the settings sleep timer kicks in), and move into the IR sensor scan area and the screen again lit up and logged me in confirming Zero Touch Login works.
  2. Laptop plugged in, refer to ztf1004_log (plugged in)
    1. I repeated step 1(i) and this time, after the 1 minute mark where the laptop's screen display turned off, confirming Zero Touch Lock works and I moved in to the IR sensor scan area, it did not pick me up which is weird why Zero Touch Login did not work. When I press a single key on the laptop, only then it detects usage and turned the screen on and logged me in to which I assume via normal Windows Hello face recognition.
    2. Continued step 1(ii) and this time, Zero Touch Lock and Login worked.

I also recorded some video for you to check it out (if you want to) to see what I meant.

Step 2(i) - https://youtu.be/tElFDUBCcBU

Step 2(ii) - https://youtube.com/shorts/U6SXLhhal2Q

Thank you.

Re:Lenovo's Intelligent Sensing Zero Touch Features No Longer Working - Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 Carbon

Hi harjuna.

I apologize for the late reply. I had the same issue where sometimes it would work, sometimes it would not. Such as during the laptop is not plugged into an AC adapter, it would work just fine. When it is plugged in, it would work except if the sleep timer is less than 3 minutes, which is weird. I have also tried uninstalling few software that could potentially prevent this to work, only to find out that it changes nothing.

However, I tried what you did, reinstalling the Chipset driver, in my case, already an up-to-date driver version, but again, it works 3/4 times. But I will see in the near future on how to ensure it works 4 out 4 times.

Thanks again for your valuable suggestion.

Re:Lenovo's Intelligent Sensing Zero Touch Features No Longer Working - Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 Carbon

I encountered a similar issue, and it was eventually resolved after a few days, although the exact reason for the resolution remains somewhat mysterious. I attempted to manually update my drivers, but most of them were already up to date, and some indicated that they didn't require reinstallation. However, the chipset driver wizard allowed for the reinstallation of the same version, and surprisingly, this resolved the problem. The underlying cause of this phenomenon remains unclear.

One noteworthy observation I made was that each time the "zero-touch" process was disrupted, there was a specific program keeping the display active. For instance, Internet Download Manager prevented the screen from turning off until a download was completed. After removing Internet Download Manager, the issue persisted. However, a few days later, I decided to reinstall the chipset driver and perform a system restart, which completely resolved the problem. It seems that the chipset driver played a crucial role in resolving this issue on two separate occasions.

May I ask which chipset driver wizard you refer to? Also, how may I identify applications or processes that may be preventing the screen from turning off?

Thanks for inquiring at the Lenovo Community!

You may visit the "Drivers & Software" section on the Lenovo support site to see the Chipset drivers that you can download for your machine. Just make sure to enter your laptop's MTM (Machine Type-Model) number (Ex. 81DN0000US) to retrieve the correct drivers.
