Re: 1TB msata SSD in Yoga 2 Pro?

alexcannas,

Thank you so much for your thoughtful reply, yes, I would greatly appreciate it if you could post a photo of the actual hardware that would be excellent.

1. Do you think there is anyway I can modify the whitelist to enable my 1TB drive to work with my Yoga 2 Pro?
2. If my device ID is the same as yours but it still doesn't work, what would be my next step?
3. How can I make sure to buy the right device ID# when buying the part, I've never noticed this advertised when making a purchase.

Re: 1TB msata SSD in Yoga 2 Pro?

I will, later today when I am at home and can access my tools ;)

I am not experienced in modifying these newer BIOSes to remove the white lists, so I cannot say.  They could be encrypted, which would make it awfully awkward to do any modification.

If you have the same ID, it would be really strange...  Perhaps the whitelist is stored somewhere else?  The guys on the other forums with experience in BIOS/UEFI moding should know better.

I got my WiFi card after reading the thread on this forums where many identified the problem.  Basicly you can only get the exact-working WiFi card from M-Factors Storage.  Most of the ebay and amazon listings of the same model will not work.

So here is the 512GB SSD from the Yoga 2 Pro... Interestingly there are Lenovo-specific part numbers on the Samsung sticker... Hope it helps you.

I would remove your SSD serial # from the internet. Others can use it to make false warranty claims that blacklists your # from service.

Were you able to check the part/product numbers?  I have spent the last couple of days trying to locate the whitelist in the BIOS and was able to find the IDs for the wireless cards.  However I do not see a HEX ID for the hard drive in Device Manager to be able to compare and find in the disassembled BIOS...

Hi!

My yoga pro 2 has a SSD - Samsung MZMTD256HAGM-000L1 ssd. Would I get many benefits from changing it to a samsung evo 840? Should I use then the software samsung magician? The bios wouldn't be able to recognize the 500gb? (example http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-500GB-mSATA-Solid-State/dp/B00HFD9BAK/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1399299430&sr=8-10&keywords=SSD+Samsung+840+Evo).

When playing call of duty ghosts, my laptop is allways the last one to load.

Thanks

I don't know how much of a different you'll see on the SSD speed, my guess is that you're looking more at network lag if your game takes a long time to load. I would first try upgrading your network card to a 5GHz compatible card, especially if you live in an urban area with a lot of wifi pollution. You might also try the USB3 docking station and doing a wired ethernet cable to your router.

I'm more concerned with the available storage space. I've got a lot of large video files that I need to access, and 256GB is simply not anywhere near adaquate. 512GB is survivable, and 1TB would actually give enough space that I don't have to worry about managing space all the time.

For the actual speed different between the standard Samsung SSD vs the EVO SSD, you'll probably want to check the reviews on TomsHardware or a similar site, but again, I doubt that it would noticably affect your performance.

I would also make sure you got the i7 version and have 8GB of RAM... Both of those should be quite preferable to i5 and only 4GB of RAM, which isn't nearly enough...

Thanks for the explanation.

My yoga is th i7 with 8gb.

Still it takes too long to load the maps on call of duty. I use the razer gamebooster to kill processes unused and still!!

Have anyone tested an mSSD of 1Tb or of 512Gb on yoga 2 pro with success?

Thanks

In what power mode do you experience the lag?
