Re: 1TB msata SSD in Yoga 2 Pro?

2014-05-10, 2:43 AM

I doubt the Y2P would have an issue with a 1tb mSATA just because of the size, but there could be something about the software.  SSDs have logic and firmware.  I would check to see if there is a firmware update for the drive.

Many have reported that the bios won't recognise any other ssd than the default. Not even those suggested in the manual!!!

I would like to know if anyone has done it with sucess and what was the ssd

Thanks

Here on Amazon I found a report of a Yoga 2 Pro user with a Samsung 840 EVO MZ-MTE1T0BW 1TB SSD installed:

Isn't the BIOS lock for SSD (SSD whitelist, permitting only few SSD models) only for Chinese version of Y2P?

I think international version of BIOS allows any SSD...

I put a 240gb Crucial M500 series mSATA in my Y2P, and it has worked flawlessly.  The Crucial M4 and now M500 series get great reviews and have always worked well for me.  I would happily try something larger, but I really do not need it.

Great thread.

So having bought my Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro in the USA (Best Buy), will the Samsung 1TB work?

Do you have a Fry's close?  If so, you can buy the Samsung drive, bring it home, try it, and return it if it doesn't work.

Re: 1TB msata SSD in Yoga 2 Pro?

I've got excellent news for everyone. I started this thread, and did quite a lot of inital research... My Yoga 2 Pro finally returned from exactly one month in the repair center. Certainly fortunate I still had my MacBook Air to use in the interim...

Turns out my case was quite a complicated one. First, my 512GB and 1TB mSATA SSDs were each sent from Shanghai to Beijing to the top tier Lenovo support team. When they put either my 512GB or 1TB mSATA SSDs in their other Yoga 2 Pro systems for testing, the SSDs worked just fine.

Finally, they sent one of their known working mSATA SSDs, plus my 512GB SSD and 1TB SSD, plus my Yoga 2 Pro to the actual Lenovo Development Center in the Zhang Jiang Development Park in Shanghai. Turns out that there was a BIOS incompatability issue. I'm not sure how common this is, but I was lucky enough to be hit with it...

The Lenovo Development Center reflashed my BIOS (note that both myself and the repair center already reflashed the BIOS with the software available from the lenovo website, so they have some additional tool). Now, I've got my Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro back in my hands, and both my 1TB Samsung EVO SSD and my 5 GHz wireless card are both working perfectly.

Can you extract your bios and upload it? Many may benefit from the wifi whitelist.
