4k problem when playing

2018-03-12, 18:20 PM

when playing 4k vidoes, the 3D -as shown- goes at its max which causes the video to not play smoothly.

Can you please check the power management if it's selected "balanced" or "high performance" ?

Out of curiosity, what program are you using to view videos?  That might have something to do with it. Some will have a setting to "use hardware acceleration," which can be changed.

I believe @yigit means the power options tab for the Intel Graphics Power Plan:

Settings > Power and Sleep > Additiona Power Settings > Change Plan Settings > Change Advanced Power Settings > Intel Graphics Settings > Intel Graphics Power Plan.

Click on "balanced" and change it to "high performance."

I use "PowerDVD" and "MPC-HC"
About Intel Graphics Settings, I didn't find "Intel Graphics Settings" when I opened "Change Advanced Power Settings"

A recent Windows Update removed a lot of those settings. There are registry hacks to get them back, but let's not do those unless necessary. PowerDVD, which I haven't used in a LONG time, has settings for hardware acceleration. Might try toggling that. I use VLC for all local media playback and Microsoft Edge for streaming. Both are very fluid on my 910 and 920.

Running this test video I downloaded on the same model Yoga 920 as you.. using VLC on the laptop's own display, I get a GPU usage of 33%.

Whichever gives you the better experience.  I can't help you with MPC-HC as I don't use it. I gave up PowerDVD many versions ago.
