500-14ISK Screen turns off on battery

2017-08-10, 16:38 PM

I've had a problem with my 500-14ISK where the screen will instantly turn off when running on battery. This happens in the bios and withing the OS.  As far as I can tell it is not just dimming the screen/backlight. It is slowly driving me mad not being able to move around with a laptop.

So far I have tried the following.

Reinstalled Windows 10

Updated Intel and Nvidia drivers

Update Intel ME software

Reinstalled latest bios (D3CN35WW)

Rolled back to all previous available bios versions (D3CN28WW, D3CN34WW, D3CN35WW)

Downgraded Intel & Nvidia drivers

Downgraded Intel ME Software

Booted to Debian live disk to test same behaviour.

Tried a different charger

Searched the many forums posts with people that have similar issues, saying to try a linked Intel ME version or trying new windows profiles even though this happens outside of windows.

Let the battery die completely

Turned on conservation mode for the battery with the AC plugged in. The screen then turns off as it tries to run off battery.

Ran the Lenovo system update tools

Ran the Lenovo diagnostics tools. All OK.

Searched the Lenovo Reddit subreddit to see other people with similar problems and no answer.

Have I missed anything?  I can't believe support for a product can just blankly end like this when it can be seen that a continued number of people are having a problem with the laptop which still falls within EU warranties.

Hello Honey_K

Thanks for using the Lenovo forums.

This seems like this will be some sort of power connection issue, if as you say this is present in the BIOS and the OS both, and even persists after a complete reinstall/reset, then this will be a hardware issue.

If these steps did not work I would recommend, that you call your local Lenovo support line for a possible repair. Below is the link to the phone list where you can find these numbers

Do keep in mind that in regards to support, the forums and things like reddit are not operated exclusively by Lenovo, besides a few employees, for the most part it is simply made up of the community, so if you are looking for the dedicated support line, then the above number would be the one to contact.

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.

Did someone help you today? Thank them with a Kudo!
