710-11ISK Motherboard Upgrade

2018-03-29, 13:44 PM

I have a 710-11ISK, 4405U (I3 processor?), 4GB memory. Its just outside of warranty, and the motherboard is dead. I love the computer, but my one complaint was it was always just a touch laggy. Since ram is soldered to the main board, there is no "upgrading". Since I have to replace it anyways, can I just swap in the board from the "better" model? 6Y54 (i5?) processor and 8GB.

My current board is p/n 5B20L46167, I want to swap in p/n 5B20L46161

They both come from a 710-11ISK 80TX. Should swap right in and boot up? Maybe update some drivers?

Hi jherman22,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Although we do not have anyone that have confirmed with this replacement yet in our community, there is a good chance that it would fit the plastics and other connectd devices sharing the same model type as parts lookup page show as compatible as per model type.

If the Machine type model (MTM ex 80TX000BUS) would also be the same then it further increase the chance of success.

If you are ordering it, just check the return options just in case.

Regards

Spidey,

Thanks for the reply. I've searched and searched before joining here, and several people have talked about swapping boards, but as you mentioned, no one has actually confirmed it works yet. Maybe I'll be the first! Return options always stiplify a 20-25% restocking fee, which on a $200 is not insignificant.

Where did you come up with the machine type model? Is that on the part lookup page? Or would I need to verify the machine type model from the seller of the part?(if available).

Are there any opinions on buying used boards from ebay? A brand new 4gb runs almost $400, vs a good tested used for $140ish. An 8gb new is pushing $700, vs $170 used. They all come with a 30 day warranty, I'm more concerned with long term. Although I could by several used ones for the price of a good one.

Hi jherman22,

Using you serial number , you can go to parts lookup page to check or on the sticker label.

If possible (seller mentioning the machine type model), MTM would narrow down the compatible parts to connect to the board specially if there is no substitute recommended when checking.

Not much guarantee depending on the seller but you can try checking lenovo encompass for certified parts.

Other members may help with their opinions too about 3rd party resellers and other distributors.

Personally, I would have service centers suggest recommendation for sourcing the part / online store other than OEM certified sellers.

Regards
