About Intel® Turbo Boost. How do I enable it?

2020-09-13, 17:59 PM

Hi. I have Lenovo Yoga 500-15ISK 80R6 with processor Intel Core i7-6500U, clock frequency 2,50 GHz. Тhis processor has "Turbo Boost" technology which should increase its clock speed up to
3,10 GHz. However, there are more frequencies than 2,46 GHz I have ever seen.

I tried to figure this out. I read that supposedly turboboost needs to be enabled in the BIOS However, I have nothing like this in the BIOS. I also read that there must be some kind of Intel Turbo Boost drivers in the device management. Which I don't have.

Could someone here explain to me what I need to do so that my processor at least sometimes runs at a speed of 3,10 GHz.

If there is no switch in the BIOS to disable Intel's Turbo Boost, then Turbo Boost is enabled all the time.

From the link Below:   "Intel Turbo Boost Technology is enabled by default on supported processors. You can disable or enable the technology with a switch in the BIOS. No other user-controllable settings to change Intel Turbo Boost Technology operation are available. Once enabled, Intel Turbo Boost Technology works automatically under operating system control."

So in short, unless you are really putting a heavy load on the processor, it may never need to use Turbo Boost, and even if it does, may only need to do so for a very short period of time, which is of course desirable on laptops where heat and battery life are major design considerations.

I loaded my processor with two different benchmarks. And I watched the frequency change on the graph. The top recorded processor frequency was 2,48. This is is very strange. It looks like this Turbo Boost is not working.
