After firmware BNCN41WW, battery not charging, Lenovo Yoga C740 14IML

2021-02-18, 16:05 PM

Yesterday, on my Lenovo Yoga C740 14IML, the Lenovo Vantage software popped up, saying an update to firmware BNCN41WW was available. After applying it, the laptop/battery is not charging. The battery life has been getting lower and lower. The Vantage software says, "The battery is in good condition.".

Similar issues were described in this thread; https://forums.lenovo.com/topic/view/1516/5065696. None of the fixes in that thread addressed the issue; including multiple reboots, holding down the power button, reinstalling Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control, and factory reset.

There is something wrong with this firmware.

Welcome to the Community Forums @bill212!

Nice to have you here!

Please check if there's an available Windows OS update for your Yoga C740.

Also, check if there's an available update to the Lenovo Vantage app as well and download/install it to the device then check the battery status again.

Another step to try in here is to load the BIOS settings into defaults by pressing FN and F9 followed by FN and F10 through the use of the Novo button.

Make sure that the Yoga C740 is turned off before pressing the Novo button that's located underneath the device.

Should the issue still occurs, you may get in touch with our Lenovo phone support at 877-453-6686 or use this link instead and enter your serial number for other contact options for them to check the machine's warranty entitlement and for other steps that can be also performed.

You may also use this other link to bring the Yoga C740 to any local service providers near your area.

Thanks,

Adriel_lenovo

Thank you for the reply. Could you please check the internal ticketing system? I'm sure others have reported this issue. Maybe a workaround or fix has been provided in those tickets. There are clearly bugs with firmware BNCN41WW. My battery/charging went from working to not working after the firmware. Nothing else changed.

I've had the Vantage software check multiple times for further updates. There are none.

There are no pending Windows Updates.

As you requested, I booted to the BIOS via the Novo button. I reset the settings to default. The battery is still draining, even though it is plugged in. Windows says, "14% available (plugged in)".

I have the exact same issue. This is a brand new pc received on 2/16/21. I updated windows and bios suggested by Lenovo Vantage on 2/18 and now it will not charge. I did the suggestions from the post above with no luck. I entered a ticket today, not yet heard back. I will likely be returning this PC as I don't need the hassles of a brand new pc not working out of the box.

The bios update is clearly bad, you have to wonder if anyone tested this stuff from Lenovo.

The following steps resolved the issue for me.

Shut down the laptop.

Unplug the charging cable from the laptop.

Hold the laptop power button for approx. 60 seconds.

Release power button and turn laptop on.

Connect charging cable to laptop.

Check battery percentage immediately and again after a few minutes to ensure the solution worked and battery is again charging.

Good luck.
